It was on PBS tonight

I had no idea the latest season was starting tonight (it aired in my area at 7 PM EST) and I just happened to see it in my cable grid. I absolutely LOVE this show and was thrilled when I found it. For anyone who missed it, it will be re-airing a few more times throughout the week... as they say in TV commercials "check your local listings".

I'm glad that the show has the same 2 judges and the same 2 hosts, who are incredibly funny. There's a nice assortment of bakers and one in particular cracked me up, not because he/she did slapstick comedy but because of situations... he/she has kind of a wry sense of humor about things.

I'm so glad to be able to watch this show again... I've missed it. I watched and recorded the 2014 competition and I downloaded the previous seasons from YouTube. I'm really looking forward to seeing this show for the next 9 Sundays.

Mine wasn't... it was brand new people (13 this time).

They started showing season 6?

reply

Yes. According to the cable grid in my area (southeast US), this episode is going to re-air a few more times this week and Episode 2 will be on September 13th at 7 PM (EST).

I just went to my local pbs website. S6 E1 is not there so I guess my station is not showing it yet.

I'll watch again whenever they decide to run it on TV but needed a fix desperately so went to youtube. I already saw the first 4 eps of season 6 and hope to watch ep 5 tonight.

I owe you an apology. I just finished posting in the thread titled "Series 6 is great" that I remembered what you posted about watching the first 4 episodes of Season 6 on YouTube. I went to that site to see a little preview of Episode 2 and found that what I watched on PBS on September 6th wasn't Season 6 at all but a repeat of what I assume was Season 4 (two of the bakers I saw on September 6th were Ruby and Toby). I had saved all of the previous episodes of the other seasons from YouTube but hadn't gotten around to watching all of them (including the one airing on PBS this week) and that site has taken those videos down. At any rate, what's on PBS in my area is a season I haven't watched so it's good for me but it's still kind of confusing because I just figured that since PBS aired Season 5 (the one with 17-year-old Martha) in 2014, this one was Season 6... oops, my bad.

I'm going to start watching the REAL Season 6 on YouTube tomorrow, assuming they haven't been taken down too.

It's a relief to know that it wasn't just my pbs station that wasn't running the new season. When I watched ep 5 last night, they were all still up. I think that's as far as they're gotten running them at home.

reply

yep. think you're right. hopefully tonight is the 'new' season.

Did you watch last week? I turned it right off. I don't think it was the finale but ep 1 of last season. Someone on the board said that they ran last season on his station also.

Just found this at my local station:

Watch the 12 remaining contestants bake 36 perfectly thin and crispy bread sticks and technically tricky English muffins. The Showstopper features outrageous loaves of bread ... from a Christmas wreath to a proud peacock and a psychic octopus.

I doubt they'll be starting season 6 until this series is over. I watched the latest, ep6 at youtube a few nights ago.

Unfortunately I can't watch Sherlock. It's too creepy. I watched the latest of Vicious last week waiting for Bake Off. It's so crude and unfunny, I won't tune in again.

When I decamp from my computer to the parlor, I watch You Rang M'Lord over and over. I've been through the 4 seasons of that about 3 times since Poldark ended. It's nice to laugh like crazy for a couple of hours before calling it a day. I try to put on some of my favorite movies but have watched them too many times to keep interest.

I watched the first 6 episodes of the REAL Season 6 on YouTube (some of the bakers are Ian, Nadiya, Ugne, and Dorret) but Episode 7 is only available if you register at another site. I've never done that on YouTube (always just watched things without having to do any extra hoop-jumping) so I'm waiting in hopes of being able to watch E7 the way I watched the first 6.

They will probably put it up this coming weekend, maybe Sat night. That's when I've been finding the new ones.

I like everyone from this season. Most past seasons one or two always got on my nerves.

I also like the bakers and I feel that the judges have mostly gotten it right as far as Star Baker and who's eliminated. And they've had some really difficult challenges this time around; I was surprised that the bakers made the alternative ingredients challenges look so effortless (dairy-free ice cream, cake without "regular" sugar).

I don't know exactly what season/series is on PBS tonight (Ruby is one of the bakers) but Episode 2 of it starts in a little over 30 minutes and I missed it on YouTube so I'm looking forward to watching it.

reply

cool. guess i'll have to check it on youtube too. thx!

Someone finally posted Episode 7 of Series 6 (the one with Nadiya, Ugne, Dorret, etc.) on YouTube where you don't have to click on another link to get to it. Here's the link that lets you watch it like I watched the first 6 episodes:

(I haven't watched it myself... just about to... but I did see that it started with Sue and Mel instead of a message directing me somewhere else so that's a good sign.)

cool! thanks!

I watched it last night and it was good. The theme was "Victorian" and they did some old-school baking.

My pbs station is calling it "season 2" so if this isn't S2 of the series and is really S6 or whatever, maybe pbs cannot get the rights to air the first few seasons.

I really would like to be able to watch them, but i don't really want to watch on youtube. Maybe at some point they'll be able to show them on tv. I'm surprised BBC America didn't air it.

I've been able to watch some of them on YouTube but when I go back the next day, they've been taken down because of copyright infringement (so why were they allowed to be posted in the first place?). A lot of them have links to other sites where you have to put in your information and a credit card number (even though they're supposed to be free). I've always watched YouTube as a free service where I didn't have to go through another site so I'm leery of doing this.

I've been home-recording the season that's airing on PBS in my area (Season 4, I think... with Ruby, Kimberly, Ali, Deborah, etc.), which is what I did with the one on PBS in 2014 (Season 5, I think... with Martha, Nancy, Luis, etc.) On YouTube, I've been watching what's listed as Season 6 (with Ugne, Dorret, Tamal, Nadiya, etc.). I was able to watch Episodes 1-8 but I've been stymied on Episode 9, at least up till now (those blasted links are available but I'm going to wait and see if the episode gets uploaded the "regular" way).

I've checked all over the Internet trying to find these shows (any and/or all seasons) to buy on DVD but I haven't had any luck. I went through the websites of the BBC, PBS, and Amazon, along with sites like eBay and ioffer in hopes that someone had home-recorded them and had them for sale. The only one I was able to find available for purchase was Season 5 but I home-recorded that one last year. It's so frustrating! I absolutely love these shows and would really enjoy having every episode of every season available.

Even if they're taken down, you can do a search and find one that isn't. I dl'd S6 eps 6&7 a few days ago and converted them to avi to watch on my TV. Be vigilant. It's obviously going to take them another whole year to show this new series. The one with Ruby is a repeat from last year.

reply

It's not so much that they would be allowed to do so, but that they just went ahead and did it. I am a baker, & I get many people who want certain characters. They think because they see it on the web of people posting these cakes that it is ok to make them. Not! This is where it is a little different: If the maker of the cake is selling(like me), they need the permission. If they are just making it for family/friends then they can put the images up-no need for permission. Many of those up on the web though are selling these cakes. They need to be careful because companies, like Disney, will sue. YouTube is a little different as unless they have the permission, they cannot air something copyrighted(money or no money involved).
I'm not sure about BBC, but your "local" PBS will air what they are given access to. Mine for instance took 2 1/2 years to air the last Poirot movie. Whereas, many PBS aired it quite a while ago. This is just like this show, just started airing last year like you. So this year they are on the one with Ruby, Ali, etc. It's a bit frustrating because you like to come on these forums & talk about what just aired. But.....

Take a look at my PBS thread. I figured out the Series #'s.
