My Suspicions (Season 1)

I'm going through season 1 on Netflix. On Episode 4 (desserts), the showstopper challenge is Baked Alaska. Ian, the hipster contestant, discovers that his bake was removed from the freezer and left out on the counter by another contestant, melting the ice cream and ruining his chances for a complete entry. In his frustration he dumped the bake in the trash and was eliminated.

Just before he discovered that his bake had been removed from the freezer, two other contestants were heard asking "Whose is this?" as they were putting their bakes in the freezer and moving/removing items. The contestant directly behind Ian was an older lady named Diana and the freezer in question was right next to her station.

When Ian looked in the freezer and asked where is mine, Diana spoke up and said "Oh, it's right here" (on the counter). She apologized briefly and then made a comment that Ian had his own freezer. From what I can see on the set, I think that each freezer is shared by a pair of bakers, and apparently Ian was supposed to have been using another freezer.

Fast forward to the next episode and they announce that Diana has had to leave the competition due to health reasons. I believe that she was removed because she interfered with another contestant's bake, even if it was out of neglect in not putting it back in the freezer after moving it.

I couple this conclusion with something else that happened in episode 5 that hadn't happened before. A contestant was shown putting their bake in the refrigerator/freezer and noticeably mentioned to the other contestants around them that they were doing so.

To avoid the same problem from happening again, I think the show admonished the contestants to keep the others aware of what they were doing to cover themselves from accusations of sabotage.

Diana fell ill and was left with no sense of taste. It was her decision to leave.

Ian acted rashly and has admitted as much. He holds no grudge against Diana.

I'm the clever one; you're the potato one.
