ruby's picnic pie
looks tasty.

It looked, as Mary says, "scrummy".
shareIt really did. I was worried about Kimberley's though since she put the meat in raw... I was afraid it wouldn't be completely cooked through. Even though I've never even heard of a picnic pie, it seemed logical to cook the meat somewhat (sear it) before putting it into the raw dough. The meat being raw probably steamed quite a bit from being encased in the dough, which was what made the dough too moist.
shareI was worried about that too. We've seen in the past that putting raw vegetables in a pie lead to a "soggy bottom", so raw meat should be similar. What I don't understand is why she didn't realize this when she practiced it at home?
shareMe too with Kimberley's pie. My mom used to make meat pies like this. She would cook the meat separately, then put it into the pie pastry. She would also do an egg wash first on the pastry to help keep it from getting soggy.
