Even Andrew Garfield Admits This Movie Was Awful

GARFIELD Suggests Studio Cuts Led to AMAZING 2 Woes (by Chris Arrant, Newsarama Contributor)

Didn’t like Amazing Spider-Man 2? Actor Andrew Garfield feels you, bro.

Garfield, who starred as the titular character in this summer’s disappointing tentpole, spoke out about studio interference, which he suggests compromised the non-so-well-received sequel.

In an aside during a Daily Beast interview promoting his upcoming film 99 Homes, the young actor pointed out multiple factors that might have contributed to the dour response to the film compared to previous outings.

Garfield says...

"I think what happened was, through the pre-production, production, and post-production, when you have something that works as a whole, and then you start removing portions of it—because there was even more of it than was in the final cut, and everything was related. Once you start removing things and saying, ‘No, that doesn’t work,’ then the thread is broken"

“We can’t go, ‘Oh God, we *beep* up because all these people are saying all these things. It’s s**t."

The movie was brain damaged from the script stage. Anyone saying otherwise is just making excuses. Even Garfield knows it's a bad final effort. You don't come forth and make excuses unless you know how bad it turned out.

He never said it was awful. Those words never came out of his mouth.

reply

He's wording it carefully to avoid getting crap himself from the studio.

reply

I still can't believe he suggested that they make Spider-Man gay and turn MJ into a black man.

reply

pathetic luke stop trolling in youtube and here nobody cares for your pathetic taste in films.

reply

People care don't they?

reply

After The Amazing Spider-Man 2, if that were to happen in the next film of this series I would not even care. I am done with Spider-Man on film until the franchise is put in better hands.

reply

Agree. If Sony makes anything, I will never pay to see it.

reply

He never said it was bad,he said it didn't come out as he expected it to.

reply

You don't make excuses unless you know it's a bad film. This is just like when Shia said that Crystal Skull was a mess and he knew that they botched it.

reply

Just fire him officially.

reply

It's been done for all practical purposes. No one wants Garfield back in any way shape or form.

reply

No one wants Garfield back in any way shape or form.

At least that's been solved.

Now we need to get Zack Snyder booted off the Superman scene.

reply

No one wants Garfield back in any way shape or form.

That didn`t age well ;)

reply

lol, only a few loud people want him back. They clearly forgot how bad his films were, and that he wanted to play a gay (technically bi) Spider-Man who dated an "MJ" that was a black guy.

reply

Those email leaks say something different.

reply

And how is that not the same thing? It didn't come out as he expected it to...because he expected it to come out good...and it didn't, so?

reply

Yeah I look forward to the missing content.

reply

Because Amazing Spider-Man 2 was CACA!!

reply

for me to POOP on!

Who is in his thirties. And looks it. And acts like it.

Calling disagreement hate is childish.

Garfield in high school was another laughable concept they asked us to swallow.

reply

And the sun is hot. We already know this movie is all kinds of awful.

reply

Movies like Interstellar may be saying that the sun isn't really hot.

reply

That's why I reported it.

reply

[deleted]

Well, that's another reason he's out.

reply

Let's all forget this franchise ever happened.

Those who don't learn from the past are doomed to repeat it.

reply

No. I liked it.

reply

Did you like it more than Fantastic Four?

reply

Story's FF was bad but not this bad. Still, the new FF looks worse than both.

reply

No sane person can credibly defend this awful effort. There can only be level of excuses why it turned out so bad.

reply

Wouldn't stroking Spiderman 3 on its board?

reply

Ha! That's what she said.

reply

What amazes me is that the execs at Sony have now interfered with and ruined TWO Spiderman franchises! How do these hacks keep their jobs???

Somewhere in the universe there has to be something better than man

reply

They don't care about promptly running the series into the ground and turn it into one uber crapfest, just so they can continue making money off the Spider-Man license.

reply

Which is short sighted and just plain self destructive. If they'd left well enough alone than Raimi's series would have gone on for at least several more vastly successful films. Now even their reboot series is fizzling out due to their meddling. What are going to do in five years? Reboot again??

Somewhere in the universe there has to be something better than man

reply

Exactly. Raimi earned the right to be left alone based on box office alone.
