I'm totally confused. During the movie, Paige was mentioned. I thought: who the hell was Paige? Doc is writing her a note as the FBI pulls up.

THEN I see in the credits that Julia Ormond was Paige, and it is making me crazy: I always recognize her face, yet I can't remember even seeing her in this movie.

Tess, the round red-headed woman
the black guy (I'm so lame; this is pathetic)

Was Paige in that group?

Paige was the woman giving the speech at the first "jam" lauding the pharmaceutical company for it's groundbreaking drug and how it was going to be provided free to all members of the US military. I got the impression she was the CFO or CEO of the company perhaps.

YES YES! Thank you for this answer, as I went on the boards here to find out that exact question. It makes sense that he apologized to her because the JAM would eventually kill her or at least ruin her mind and body...

Right, because within a week or two of the jam she was clearly feeling strong side effects, and it made it so bad for Doc's sister she killed herself. So Doc probably knew it was just the beginning for her in terms of her suffering.

i didn't realize who "Paige" was while watching the film. Now I understand why Doc was writing a letter to Paige saying he was sorry. Now I understand why he allowed himself to get caught by the FBI.

He calls her "Paige" not "Ms. Williams". Seems like he knows her personally?
