That Gravity Falls (2016) movie is not connected to the show. Its about people who get stuck upside down on a rollercoaster. Under the release info, it says it's also know as "Invertigo 3D". Here's the facebook page for that https://www.facebook.com/Invertigo3d/info/?tab=page_info.
I really hope they do do a movie continuation of the show some day.
From the first moment I saw Dipper Pines, I thought of Eric Forman/That 70's Show (actor Topher Grace). Dipper is kind of like a cartoon version of that character (helping matters is that Eric's girlfriend on the show is/was the red-headed Donna (to Dipper's Wendy)....
