The Northwest Fortune

How did Preston Northwest lose the family Fortune?

In "Weirdmageddon Part I" he started to welcome "our new demonic overlord" as it were and was given a dose of body horror and looked about to die.

In "Weirdmageddon Part III: Take Back the Falls" Pacifica sees her mother and father in the throne of petrified people. When they were released from the throne and restored to life Preston looked normal, so he would have been changed back to normal before being pr petrified.

Later it was said on the news that Preston had invested the family fortune in the Weirdmageddon and was wiped out when Bill was defeated, and Preston had to sell the mansion. This implies that Bill Cipher was selling stock in some organization like a corporation to profit from the Weirdmageddon and Preston invested everything in it. Which of course does not make any sense.

This makes it seem like "Weirdmageddon Part III: Take Back the Falls" is in an alternate universe where events happened differently than in "Weirdmageddon Part I".

But even in an alternate universe it is hard to imagine why Bill Cipher would want mortal money and sell stock in the weirdmageddon to lowly mortals to get it. And wasn't every change Bill made reversed? Wouldn't that mean that Preston's money would go back into his bank accounts like he had never bought stock in the apocalypse?

Bill is insane and it's WEIRDmageddon, that about answers any questions for why Bill does anything he does.

And don't forget, there is a time jump in part 1. So their is plenty of time for Northwest to return to normal and destroy his fortune.
