Anyone else think the gay thing is unnecessary?

It feels that a lot of kids cartoons lately are trying to now add a gay character just because it's "fashionable". It wasn't done too badly here in Gravity Falls, since it wasn't exactly all that important and it was only for a second alluded to, it was handled much better than a certain Nickelodeon series that I won't mention to avoid spoilers. But the fact that they shove in these gay characters in kids shows just because they're thinking "hey, we gotta keep up with times yeah cause it's 2016 bruh" is kind of a stupid notion.

Your attitude that you think it's just about fashion is the stupid notion. The simple fact that you are the only person who has raised this issue might clue you in on that.

Yes, it's 2016, gay people exist, get over it. Most kids I know (I work with children) don't have a problem with who loves whom - it's only adults who project their negative beliefs on children that makes them think otherwise.

It's hot... but not as hot as the night Johnny Viti got married...

Well, another way of looking at it would be that it's trying to reflect reality. As in, not pretending such relationships don't exist (ie shoving them in the closet, where they've largely been forced to exist for too long). They should have been allowed to be shown all along, and weren't -- for bad reasons. So to begin to include them isn't "fashionable" so much as righting a wrong.....that's how I look at it, anyway.

I do agree in a way with what you said about being "fashionable" but may I ask where the gay reference was in the show? Because, if it was there than it was done really not noticeable... The only thing I noticed is that Old McGuckets second "wife" is a racoon...which is quite tasteless imo

It's with Sheriff Blubs and Deputy Durland. The show has always kind of hinted at it with them, but when they said "We're mad with power... and love" at the end, people interpreted it as a confirmation they were gay.

I think it's been pretty obvious throughout the entire show, no? No confirmation really needed, imo....I don't know how else many of those scenes could have been interpreted...

The two cops said they were mad with love for each other which pretty much removed any subtext they were gay and just made it kinda blatant. It was there for a second but if you watch the show it was hinted at the whole time. And then there's Tyler Cute Biker who is coded to be gay as well.

As u said, it was only 1 second allusion. It was very implicit. If you are bothered by even THAT. Then maybe you need to be getting with the times as well, not just the shows
