Turned it off after 25 mins.
I'm sorry, I gave this movie a chance. I watched the original one a while back and I liked it.
It was very very very slow with alot of unnecessary stuff, but since its a old movie, I gave it a pass.
Enter BR2049.
Started out very interesting, but just grinds to a halt with slow pacing and boring storylines.
I thought the whole 'replicant' getting pregnant idea was cool, but after that revelation it takes forever for the story to get going and I just couldnt bear it anymore.
It's mainly about the mood. Guess it either clicks with you or it doesn't. The film washed over me like a weird dream. Extremely refreshing in this climate of quick-cut, noisy bullshit.
Agreed, especially from one who likes the first and didn't mind the slowness.
Second time I saw 2049, it flew by, I liked it more on that second viewing. I appreciated the Deckard/child plot more, but I still feel it didn't need that and could have focused on K and Joi. His desire for humanity and false hope of having his own real memories could have driven the plot by itself, really, and the inversion against the original would have stood alone.
I've watched the whole thing, it's a beautifully made film. However, I could literally count the number of times I was screaming internally to PICK UP THE GODDAMN PACE, MOTHERFUCKER!!!!
Morever, the action sequences felt so unemotional and dull, I couldn't care less about the outcome.
Well I'm sorry it was just a boring mess. If I would have continued watching I would have fallen asleep. Maybe next time make a more exciting fucking movie..
I've been skeptical of this movie, mainly because I didn't like the idea of creating a sequel to a Sci-Fi classic. The original BLADE RUNNER is just beautiful to behold. The vision of the dystopian future with glimmers of hope, an alcoholic ex-replicant hunter trying to figure out this world, the innocent prettiness of Rachel, the shambles of the daily people who file through the grimy, rain-soaked streets, the noises and the colors of this imagined world.... All so beautiful in their own way!
So I had made the decision that I was NOT going to see BR2049, yet then my brother saw it and relayed his thoughts. Now I'm open to seeing it. He says that it is about an hour longer than it needs to be. Outside of that, he said it's pretty good. Looks like I'll be Red Boxing this, sometime this week. I'll get back with some knowledgeable points about it, after viewing.
I was skeptical as well, for pretty much the same reasons as you. Blade Runner is probably my favourite movie ever and at no point have I felt like it needed a sequel.
That being said, there was no way I wasn't going to see this while it was on at the movies. In the end I'd have to say it's probably my favourite movie of 2017 while still being a slight disappointment compared to the original. It's visually stunning but it lacks some of the humanity. Give it a try.
