Agree, it is a dark and ugly film, don't lose your time on this one.

I agree with the post saying it is ugly. However, to be honest the first movie was dark and ugly. But that movie was art underscored with Vangelis' amazing music. This one is yet ANOTHER ugly and violent movie. It starts off with horrific violence. I knew I should have claimed back my time after that but I skipped over that part and dove in for the scifi fun. There wasn't any. Sure it was originally meant to scare us straight, show us an image of our world if we do not change our polluting, Earth destructing and society destroying ways but the violence genre has become SO UBIQUITOUS that no one is noticing any longer. It was meant to warn us about the horrors of AI and genetic engineering and what would happen to our planet if it were allowed to continue. In fact the violence and depravity in movies is what is causing our society to be so backwards. People are so indoctrinated, so steeped in violence they think it is normal. Of course the it's-cool-scifi kiddies are all over it delusional of how exciting they think a world like this would be. But it isn't. The biggest hole in this movie is there is no way such huge populations of people could be sustained when there is no where nor any way to grow any food on a planet that is barren and destroyed. The movie ends off leaving us with no hope whatsoever. It's not worth paying to go see movies in theaters anymore because they cannot get past the constant non stop violence ad nauseum. The only thing audiences might get out of this (but not likely anymore) is this is the horror our world will look like if we continue to destroy it and destroy our society with immorality.

I don't have a problem with movie violence, morals and ethics......it's just that *this* movie was crap (and vastly overrated)

I think now it's hit smaller screens, more and more people are going to wake up to the fact that it's (nothing but) a 'Naked Emperor'....parading down 'Pretentiousness Avenue' for all the 'edgy' cinemagoers (demanding their 'instant' classic)

Dolemite's his name, and saying shit that ain't true's his game!

I understand your frustration with contemporary cinema. This movie is not the culprit, however. It 's beautiful, philosophical, and it ends with a protagonist deciding to do something honorable, even though it means the destruction of his own "life." For an example of depravity in modern cinema, check out the latest Star Wars movie--it's soulless, intellectually vapid, and one of the most blatant pieces of propaganda I've ever seen.

Care to elaborate on what is 'Beautiful' or 'Philisophical' about this movie (if anything it's fifty times more desperate than the last Star Wars flick) TLJ knows it's more of a Happy-Meal tie in than a movie (and for all it's many faults) doesn't pretend to be amnything else.

Supporters of BR2049 are great at hurling superlatives about the movie....but never elaborate why? (I call it 'Russell Brand Thesaurus Syndrome'......empty hollow platitudes....made by a likewise audience)

Please explain the 'Philosophy' and give examples of 'Beauty' in this movie.....for fellow dullards (like myself) Methinks you're just reciting fifth-hand studio-hyperbole bullshit? It's as if fans of such tripe, have only ever seen 2 or 3 movies in their lifetime....to heap so much praise.....at so little?

Please educate me on the (apparently) many merits of Blade Runner 2049....Please?

The latest Star Wars is the step in the right direction. Did I just say that?

Intellectual vapid and one of the biggest pieces of propaganda ever? Nah, more like the right kind of movie for this dark time in history. Gives you hope that his fascist takeover of America will end someday. Spectacular film. ✊

Fascism, that's cute 😄 Say what you will about this manchild president, but brainless millennial's embrace of hyperbole only makes things far worse.

I lost my time with it. Four times at the theater as a matter of fact. Oh me!

Like its predecessor, fun was the last thing this film wanted to give viewers (even though Ridely Scott originally argued that it was the opposite for his film). It is a visual spectacle that provides a dark and gritty look at the future, and in a odd way it’s compelling to watch. It is called cyberpunk, and no, it’s not the kind of genre/film that will have “inferior” young minds (as pompous older jackasses love to spew) geeking their minds over.

reply

actually it is a visually exceptionally pleasing film. it is the script that's lacking.

completely agree...

reply

I agree, the movie is terrible but I disagree that the original one was ugly, to me it was incredibly beautiful.

I loved every frame of this movie, it was so aesthetically pleasing for me to look at and it went down as my best movie of 2017. I think it's actually better than the first which is also aesthetically pleasing to look at.
