Sean Young?

If that was a CGI Sean Young as Rachael, then I'm very impressed.
Also, I saw her name on the credits at the theatre but it doesn't seem to be listed on IMDB.

Was she actively involved in some capacity I wonder?

reply

ya that was her mixed with cgi.

reply

Cool. They did a pretty good job.

reply

she did the scene, yes

reply

She was listed in IMDB in 'rest listed alphabetically.' I thought they did a good job finding an actress to look so much like the original Rachel and was stunned to find it *was* Sean Youngl Looked at her pictures through the years and see that she has aged very well.

reply

I also wondered how they did it, with a stunt look alike perhaps. But in that scene you could see her hands and they were old so figured they must've brought her back.

reply

Yeah, I was having a debate in my mind too the second I saw whether it was the real Sean Young or CGI Sean Young. But I think it was neither, it was just partial cgi, they de-aged her with CGI like they've done in before in Many other movies, like in X-Men or Joy.

Before the film came out there were some reports that said Young secretly filmed some scenes for the sequel. After seeing the film I figured her appearance in the film was accomplished by amazingly de-aging her (I assumed it was accomplished by the same team that does the Marvel movies).

But according to an interview Villeneuve did with Game Spot, a lookalike actress with the same height and general appearance of Sean Young was cast to be in this scene. Young herself was then brought in to coach the stand-in actress to replicate her performance as Rachael. After they shot the scene the footage was given to a VFX company that spent a year making the lookalike look exactly like a young Sean Young as Rachael (they also got someone who sounds like her).

With that in mind, it’s clear Young didn’t film anything for this film. It was basically a lookalike, some coaching, and perhaps the most convincing CGI ever seen on screen that made Rachael’s return possible. At any rate, her appearance was uncanny and awe-inspiring.

The voice failed for me immediately. Kind of surprised it wasn't even closer sounding.

reply

I partly agree. Though it could be argued that this “replica” couldn’t completely be like the real Rachael because as good as he was, even Wallace couldn’t get it all right. For that possible reason, it made sense her voice sounded a bit off.

But then again, the filmmakers apparently went with the voice that sounded the closest to Sean’s.

reply

It was definitely close. I'll give them that.
