So far every movie I looked forward to this year that had this much early positive buzz did, in fact, turn out great with the critical acclaim to back it up.
In 2049's case, it is being called everything from a masterpiece to even an improvement over the original. Wow. To a handful out there this all just one big marketing ploy, but, I have a hunch the "real" reviews will confirm what these so-called paid bloggers are saying. No, I do not expect to prefer this one over the original - thought of it frightens me a bit, haha - but by the look of things this may be a sequel that does justice to its predecessor. And if it's truly great, inevitably some will be left unimpressed.
In any event, an amazing film that can stand on its own is what I'm anticipating. But mixed or great reviews, I shall go see it on opening day.
