You know, the only way to stop hollywood from ruining great movies of the past...
...is to stop going to the movies altogether. Just stop. I know it's going to be difficult -- In the U.S., it's a basic part of our culture, one of the only things that unites all the wonderful different cultures that are a part of the American family. We all love to go to the cinema on the weekends. But when was the last time you actually thought you were going to see something unforgettable at the movie theater? That feeling of excitement and anticipation over something new at the theater, I haven't sensed that since the early 90s, and even then, it was usually a let down. Nothing like the early 80s, when the big summer blockbuster movies actually delivered what they promised and, more importantly, were new, original movies.
Hollywood will continue to crank out sequels and reboots and whatever else they like to call this garbage until a MASSIVE number of people get smart enough to stop giving them their money. We don't need another BLADE RUNNER. We need something NEW. Something that speaks to this age, rather than attempting to coddle the nostalgic nerve-endings of the older crowd (not that the older crowd doesn't deserve movies either; they ALSO deserve something original, something that speaks to their lives RIGHT NOW).
