You should watch Prisoners or Sicario. 

Blade Runner 2 won't be boring though 

reply

prisoners was good. had a few plot holes. sicario was a no story so was arrival. all flash no depth or substance.

Prisoners is probably his best. To be honest i thought Arrival was a well-made film but yeah i was bored too. It's not for everyone i guess.

What did you think of the Blade Runner 2 teaser?? You didn't like it?

I think Ridley Scott probably gave him some advices on the set, we should be fine.

reply

too short to make any real assessment. i hope they keep the 80s retrofuturistic feel though. without that its not bladerunner.

reply

" i hope they keep the 80s retrofuturistic feel though" nope they didnt

reply

No he shouldn't. Sicario was just as boring.

Nolan, I love you forever!

reply

Then you must have found the original Blade Runner boring as well.

reply

eh no. things actually happen in Blade Runner.

The original Blade Runner was an action film just as much as it was sci-fi.

Blade Runner is a low pace sci-fi. It has action scenes but for those expecting "JJ Abrams" like movies might fall asleep. Arrival had some action, they even had an huge explosion and space aliens.

reply

It is low paced in somewhat 1/3 of it. On 2/3 it's an action. It might not be the full blow-up action (as you sa "JJ Abrams" alike), but still there are people (and other beings) doing things. Arrival was totally action-less. Space aliens are not "action" by themselves, they're just characters, lol. Huge explosion? Well, I don't remember that.

Blade Runner is a Science Fiction movie to its core. There are a few action scenes, but those in noway make it an action movie.

To call 2/3 of it an action movie is just ridiculous. You haven't seen the movie, have you?

I told you before, sci-fi is about ideas, about things not possible today. It doesn't require action. Take away those themes and have all the action you want, its not sci-fi.

Arrival is based on one of the most celebrated short stories ever written and there is literally no action in the story whatsoever, they added the escalated tension with China, their motive for coming and the explosion that killed one of the heptapods for the movie. Yet, it doesn't stop the book from being great. Same goes for the movie.

reply

Real science fiction, like Blade Runner was, requires action, because only through action you can show the affect of this ideas and themes you are talking about, not through dialogue or exposition or anything out of someone's mouth. Only through action you can answer the main question of any science fiction: what if...

And by action, again, I don't mean huge explosions and chases. I mean that someone do things continuously, big scale things.

That's the key. Short story. Arrival is a short story, that's because it doesn't neccesarity requires a lot of action. But Arrival film was feature, just like Blade Runner 2049.

If you think Arrival was boring then you just didn't get it, and you probably shouldn't go see Blade Runner 2049. This stuff just isn't for you, that's all.

reply

didnt get it? what was there to get? if you call that depth then you sure as hell are not a book reader.

reply

Books are a separate and different art form. So that has nothing to do with whether or not this movie was good.

reply

There isn't anything to get in Arrival. People pretend that there is something, but there simply isn't.

Arrival is better than anything nolan directed after dark knight

reply

Loved it myself.

Whatever you are, be a good one.

reply

I think that says more about you than it does the director. Arrival was fantastic.

reply

Most people agrees with you! Don't listen to the pretentious "cinephiles" who will defent this boredom to death, literally.

These are the headlines of the most helpful reviews here, on IMDb. As you can see, they speaks for themselves:

"I really don't understand the good reviews. Everybody in the cinema was bored to death"

"*** SPOILERS*** A dreary, morose Close Encounters"

"Pure boredom"

"OMG What a snorefest"

reply

So if someone actually got a lot from it and wasn't bored they're automatically "pretentious"? Is that because you found it boring?

The reviews you refer to are helpful to you if you are in agreement with them I guess. Otherwise they are far less persuasive, in large part because they're often not even trying to be persuasive or offer up much of a "review", instead describing more of an overall reaction.

reply

They're describing people's opinion in majority. Majority of people found these reviews helpful, not the ones which are suggesting that the movie was a sci-fi masterpiece or thought-provoking mind-bending sci-fi drama or something like that. You can check the reviews page of every acclaimed science fiction film through years, and you'll see that they have a majority of positive reviews amongst the most helpful, while with Arrival it's the opposite. This fact says something. That it is rather a small, but very vocal group of people here who enjoyed it, and now trying to pretend, to make an illusion that the majority of the planet loved it and that the ones who didn't just didn't get it or didn't have enough brains. While in reality, it is rather their opinion which is in minority, and what I'm trying to make, is to ruin this illusion, so people can see that it's not true.

Arrival is brilliant, and it makes me even more excited about Blade Runner 2049. I would have never been onboard for a sequel if they didn't have Villeneuve as a director.

His best movie is Enemy....just fantastic, like a David Lynch light movie, its a masterpiece but I did like Prisoners also...Sicario is one of the most overrated shit movies ever made...only good thing about that movie is Benicio del toro.
