Old People Trash A House

I thought this had some pretty funny moments and even though I'm sick to death of 40-somethings nostalgia for the 80's, some of this movie was pretty funny.

But it was lighthearted enough to be a 90 minute puff piece. Dragging it out to 2 hours and adding the seriousness of not aging gracefully was a mistake. It makes me embarrassed, being 45 years old myself, that it seems like people of my generation who won't grow up, over cursing in front of their kids, and the constant nostalgia drives me up a wall.

Or maybe it's just a movie and every generation is basically the same.

I liked the movie, notwithstanding that almost everyone posting here hates it!!

That is one of the benefits of getting older, you can like something and don't care if anyone else does. I am past the mid 40's nostalgia but I still felt it.

I sold my parents house last year, and the aspect of the movie I related to most was the buyers of the house, and their nitpickiness. Every damage that was done, I registered as something that would have to get fixed for the new owners!

The buyer pointing to the cracked electric outlet plate, that was only slightly exaggerated. My buyer threatened to back out, over a clogged drain.

Gee Woodle, Space Kadoodle!

So you liked the movie because of a bad real estate experience?

Fay and Poehler are funny enough on-screen to get a laugh by ACTING THEIR AGE - they don't have to behave like kids... It's impossible to have much respect for characters that are so infantile.

That was kind of the point of the movie. They were immature in their own ways and trying to re-live/re-capture their teen years by throwing a party.

If that was the point of the movie, then that's why I didn't like it... The title didn't clue me in; I had to watch it to find out that the story was centered around a case of arrested development, and if I'd known that beforehand, I might not have chosen to view.

I can respect that the movie might not be for you, though did you ever see the trailer? It showed that the movie was going to be about two grown women acting like teenagers and throwing a Neighbors/Project X-like house party.

reply

No; I try not to watch trailers before I see the movie...

Just to be clear - I'm not sorry I saw it, but I just expected it to better, based upon the cast, and the fact that I hadn't HEARD it was awful...

I'd be down for watching a movie where Fay and Poehler play a couple of emotionally mature sisters, though - that probably won't happen now...  I like my characters to be adult and witty, and these ladies are capable of it, so to me it made no sense that they went the regressive route.
