elderly patient lotion "joke" = NOT funny

If the genders were reversed, and a feeble-looking, elderly woman is shown in a hospital bed, strongly telling a 40ish male nurse DO NOT apply lotion there (her vagina) - but the male nurse ignores her and replies, "Shhhh! You NEED it there," and did it anyway - that would be called sexual assault, elder abuse, etc. and no one would laugh at that.

Tired of this sort of gross-out, crotch-injuring "humor" at males' expense in movies like this. I knew Amy and Tina were feminazis but c'mon, the reverse sort of "comedy" showing men assaulting and injuring female genitalia would never be tolerated in Hollywood.

I don't understand the context of the scene. Was the elderly patient of sound mind or did they have dementia?

i thought he had some kind of cancer..but the scene didnt make sense at all..but then the movie itself was trying to hard..

The patient was a "he" and he did not have dementia. Maura was absentmindedly applying the lotion while distractedly talking to Kate on the phone. She kept advancing on the patient until he brought her back to her senses.

No sexuality in the scene. It would have been just the same if Maura had been applying a gauze bandage until the patient looked like a mummy.

Why do you think she was lotioning his genitals? Her hand position was not THAT high, and she was ON THE PHONE and not assulting and injuring his genitals. Lotioning upper thigh occurs a lot too in hospital to prevent chafing. Sometimes the patient is resistant or slightly uncomfortable, but sometimes it happens - she should have put down the phone, not be distracted and explain what she's doing to the patient. Regardless, I read it as he was saying no need, and she said yeah that's the procedure. It wasn't a prolonged scene with any sexual nature.

"Crotch-injuring"? She was rubbing lotion on his skin, where did you get the impression she was "injuring" him?

I completely agree with the original poster. If the genders were reversed in this scene, people would not be saying "get over it" "there was nothing sexual about it" "you have a feminist vibe so your opinion doesn't matter".

There would be outrage. There would be articles about the scene in major publications. People would boycott the movie. People would stand outside theatres and protest the movie. People would be saying that this scene is proof of rape culture.

Consent works both ways. If you require a woman's consent to touch her in any way, then you should require a man's consent to touch him. The man in this scene was clearly uncomfortable and did not want the nurse to apply lotion to a certain area of his body, but she proceeded anyway without his consent.

People will say "it's just a movie, lighten up" etc. but again, no one would be saying that if the genders were reversed.

Also, the term "men's right's activist" has become meaningless. It's just a lazy term people use to label anyone who disagrees with them.

This movie sucked anyway, but I especially hated that hospital scene so, so much. I can't believe someone thought it was okay to include.

Oof, go back and watch the scene again. She's a nurse, applying lotion to an elderly patient because he requires lotion, she rubs the lotion up the inside of his thigh, she's not fondling or touching his penis or testicles in any way, shape or form. This might shock you OTT morons but this kind of procedure is an every day occurance for nurses, if they're required to apply lotion to a patient then guess what, they're going to apply lotion.

Really, go back and watch that scene again, she's not molesting him at all, she's simply applying lotion to his legs. If anything, I'm surprised people aren't bitching about the fact that Maura is, not only on the phone but she phoned Kate when she should have been focussing on the patient, if you're going to be really picky about it, the worst thing about it is the offhand way she says 'you do need lotion in there', she's not wrong but she shouldn't have been on a personal phonecall with Kate at the time and if she hadn't been, she could have taken the time to explain to the patient why he needed lotion applied where it was.

Still, despite that, people bitching that she was molesting him against his wishes is ridiculous. So yeah, get over yourselves and stop taking everything so seriously.

(FYI, the actor who took part in the scene actually stated that he was pretty delighted to have Amy Poehler applying lotion to his legs. Not that that will alter the opinions of those who claim it was molestation)
