What's the deal with Chris' wife? (Spoilers)

Did I miss something? From what we're led to believe in the film, Chris (James Mardsen) was the one faithful guy in the film, at least up until the point where he decided to cheat with Rachel Taylor. He was the most hesitant to accept a key, and was always going on about how he'd never cheated on his wife before and that he's not like that. But it seemed as though before he even met Rachel Taylor, his wife already had a chip on her shoulder. She kept talking to him with contempt even though we assume he hadn't even done anything yet. What gives?

they made her that way so we would hate her and approve of the blond chick

I kinda get it. Like there needed to be a push over the edge for him. But it would have been better if they'd given a reason. Instead, with her awful attitude and no reason behind it, we can almost sympathize with him cheating on her given how emotionally abusive she came off.

she clearly disapproved of his friends and it was very obvious that at least some of them were being unfaithful to their wives (who she seemed to be friends with). it's not a stretch to think that somebody who'd have no issues with his friends being unfaithful would do the same
