Mahaatma Gandhi had taught in his teachings not to condone or use violence-- but be firm and decisive in non-violence. But, the non-violence, or "Ahimsa", Mahaatma Gandhi was referring to was a non-violence which came from a place of Faith, conviction and INNER STRENGTH and resolve.
However, Gandhi also said that the non-violence should NEVER be a cover for hiding cowardice-- and furthermore, if a person sees an injustice happening-- not only should he/she interfere to stop it and end it --at times by using some form of violence even, if required-- that person who intends to end injustice is REQUIRED and compelled to interfere to end injustice.
Therefore, in the movie "Agneepath (2012)" both Vijay's father and Vijay are correct and JUST, both from their own places and perspectives, in dealing with the very cruel injustices of the villian-Kancha.
Kancha was a type of cruel man who could only be brought to his end, by using force, which Vijay was compelled to use, in the confrontation with him.
That's the way I see it. I hope it answers your question.
Blessings! :-)
