Ed Harris is great as McCain although script dumbs him down

Fantastic McCain by Harris and once again proves that had John Glenn and John McCain acted like Harris's version of them, they would have been president. My only peev is that the script treated McCain like a babe in the woods when it came to campaigning and strategy and he would just agree with what his operatives thought... like he was too dumb or naive. "Ok, Steve." "You're right, Steve." ETC.

Makes you wonder if his aides were so powerful how could they not have convinced him to drop palin after she revealed her stupidity to them before she was announced and even after the couric interviews. Reveal all the truth about palin and no one would have Thought he was wrong. Conservative media people were already demanding her removal from the ticket.

Exactly how did Palin reveal her stupidity before she was announced?

reply

in her conversations with schmidt and wallace

You keep saying Niv-1, things like; Sarah Palin "revealed her extreme extreme stupidity and ignorance on every issue" and that the GOP still selected her as McCain's running mate.

Again, please tell us how exactly did Palin reveal her stupidity before she was announced as the GOP's Vice Presidential candidate?

"in her conversations with schmidt and wallace"

Which conversations? Which conversations before she was announced did Sarah Palin reveal that she was, as you say "extremely stupid"?

The scene on the plane where schmidt is looking at her like she is crazy!

No Niv, you keep saying; "she revealed her stupidity to them before she was announced"

When did Palin reveal her stupidity BEFORE the GOP chose her?

reply

you changed the question from announced to chose and she revealed her stupidity in the movie before she was publicly announced.

Not talking about McCain, the real life guy, but Ed Harris's performance?

Top notch!

I usually like Ed Harris but not this time. Not saying it was his fault, more likely the script. Just seems that he is an observer in the campaign and not the candidate. Problems arise and his response seems to be "well whatever."

McCain was the "face" of the Repub campaign, and he had tons of advisors. Just like with organization, town-level, sports coaching hierarchy, retail, etc, the lead person doesnt always come up with all of the ideas, he or she or they (if a committee) ratify all of the input from the team and decide which ideas are going to be used.
Also, the movie was mainly about Mike Wallace and Sarah Palin, so they had to funnel all of the main ideas through those two characters. If the movie was about McCain, youd see him do more of the idea-making and brainstorming on screen.
Still, Harris' portrayal of McCain was well done, while he seems to simply agree with what everyone says, he is shown as being ethical and sensible (the Rev. Wright scenes, JMc flinching when the late-campaign aggressive tactics brew audible jeers from the crowds.

JM sure curses alot, also, the real McCain had a more nasal voice, whereas Ed harris has a deeper voice.

I've seen him plenty of times on the news and C-SPAN.

Remember Bomb Bomb Iran?

The guy has build his entire career on his family's military tradition and his POW experience.

If anything the movie is kind towards him.
