Is this worth watching?

I'm a liberal but I'm not so raging that it's the reason I'm on the fence about watching this. It's more on the lines of ... why should I watch this? Does this expose anything truly interesting about the campaign? If it wasn't Sarah Palin would anyone have ever made a movie about a failed Presidential run with focus on the VP? If anything, I'm supporting the Sarah Palin supporters on this but for a different reason ... I question why this movie was made as Sarah Palin should have never garnered enough attention or respect to deserve a movie (and several porn movies) dedicated after her.

My rag on Ms. Palin aside, why is this worth watching? I mean, Julianne Moore is a great actress (especially in Chloe) but ever since this movie has been announced I've always wondered ... why?

it exposes something very interesting about the mccain campaign asking a doctor to observe palin at the bbq to see if she was insane! Schmidt calls mccain when he is sleeping and talks nervous breakdowns and catatonic stupors palin is having and mccain very nonchalantly says I have a doctor friend who can observe her and give a report or impressions to schmidt! The doctor says the vp candidate "is not half bad." I have no idea what that means and how could a VP candidate continue as a VP candidate if the presidential candidate is arranging to doctors to observe the VP candidate at a BBq! LOL the movie says this happened! and then everyone was satisfied I guess? The movie never shows mccain learning about the not half bad remark! Then is tells you nicolle wallace didn't even vote for mccain! So her dealings with palin made it impossible for her to vote republican! The whole catatonic stupor thing is interesting. How was this woman a VP candidate after the things the movie shows you. The movie is shocking. Palins behavior and ignorance is so beyond anything you could imagine until you see the movie.

reply

Depends. If you find politics fascinating, and the fact that this woman was almost a heartbeat away from the Presidency, then, yes, it's riveting.

The book was interesting. It offered a lot of insight into the Obama/Clinton battle and revealed some little-known facts about John Edwards' campaign. And it's pretty objective, regardless of which political party it's dealing with.
The film is nothing more than liberal propaganda. Pure trash. Don't waste your time.

"The film is nothing more than liberal propaganda"

Please elaborate. This seems to be a common refrain here. What parts of the film did you feel were propagandized?

Palin is depicted as so incredibly stupid in the private scenes that because this was aired in 2012 and made when a lot of people did think she was going to run but even if the makers didn't it shows a republican party that was so blase about this incredibly stupid woman who was unteachable and couldnt learn anything about policy and brings up catatonic stupors and mental breakdowns. Why would you vote for any republican if the republican was so fine with this woman potentially being VP? Thats why it is liberal pro democrat propaganda.

reply

Are you a bot? You having to reply to every single post in here is a bit bizarre. It's also unintelligible.

reply

HolderEric is just an overly sensitive neocon. If anything it was a more sympathetic portrayal than she deserved. And the fact that the book was written by conservative republicans makes HolderEric look even more ridiculous.

The book was really interesting. Hardly 'liberal propaganda' whatever that's supposed to mean.

It was so sympathetic when they show her being profiled for mental illness at the BBQ because everyone thinks she's going insane. She still hasn't been formally evaluated for mental illness either as far as I know. They show her in a catatonic stupor on the floor surrounded by papers. The movie and book were both written by liberal democrats.

"why should I watch this?"

You should watch it if you are interested in politics. Or are interested in being entertained.

"Does this expose anything truly interesting about the campaign? "

I guess that's a subjective question with subjective answers. Personally, I found the campaign interesting, and this movie was, in turn, also interesting.

"If it wasn't Sarah Palin would anyone have ever made a movie about a failed Presidential run with focus on the VP? "

Well, the campaign pretty much put focus on the VP. I think that was the intention.

I didn't find it particular scathing. I actually empathized with Sarah much more after seeing the film than before.

If you like backstage politics it's absolutely fascinating. It is based on firsthand accounts by people who were behind the scenes at one of the most controversial presidential campaigns since the hanging chads debacle that got Bush elected.

If you like the behind the scenes of politics, you'll like this movie. And you may be surprised at how you feel about Sarah Palin and John McCain afterwards....
