Gritty, Realistic, Pulls no Punches
This is how it is for the masses living under the breadline in The Philippines, all of the characters are true to life and thoroughly believable, the casting is spot on. All round a good movie even if some of the subject matter is hard to accept for foreigners sitting in the comfort of their comparatively wealthy, welfare supported, med insurance western lives.
Yes a Mother will do anything to feed her children, yes the macho-man mentality is rife in Pinoy society, and sadly the casual display and use of guns is rampant.
I for one will seek out more of Sean Ellis' movies, and just as a sidebar, I would love to see his take on some of Irvine Welsh's work.
