A question for Polish speakers about the Polish surname
I don't watch this show as I'm not part of its target audience, but I accidentally clicked on the wrong link and came to this show's page and I read the following on its Goofs page:
Sophie Kaczynski's name should really be Zofia Kaczynska. The form 'Sophie' does not exist in Polish, and because Slavic surnames ending in '-ski' are grammatically considered adjectives, Zofia's surname should be the feminine form 'Kaczynska'. (In mitigation[sic?], the character may have dropped 'Zofia' in favor of the more English-sounding 'Sophie', but this doesn't explain the faulty surname.)
I'm not a Polish speaker but that contradicts everything I've ever read on the subject, as a number of Poles have names that end with a "-ski," including it's last dictator Wojciech Jaruzelski. If someone reading this (perhaps even the person who actually posted it) could provide some explanation for it? It doesn't sound correct to me.
