When Sophie walks in the crowd goes wild. Why so? Reminds me of Seinfeld

When Kramer would walk in the crowd would go nuts for minutes on end. They finally had to tell the live audience to calm it after a while. Does she do something before the taping to make them cheer for her?

Kay: Senators and presidents don't have men killed.
Michael: Oh, who's being naive, Kay?

Tells the set workers to turn the cheer box up loud lol

reply

reminds me of married with children, when al bundy comes in

reply

They did this back on "Sanford and Son" during the later seasons whenever a main character would enter. It was very annoying.

reply

3 cheer entrances this week. I am thinking they are reading this and giving us a big "screw you" now...

reply

Reminds me of other shows like "Happy Days", everytime 'Fonzie' would come in, the audience would cheer loudly and later on when 'Chachi' joined the show, the girls would scream. Another show like that was "Married With Children", the audience was so loud and raucous, they sounded like they were drunk when any of the characters would say or do something.👏

reply

And now she comes in pushing that stupid baby carriage.

reply

It's soooooo annoying I cringe every time the audience overreacts.i love this show it's stupid and funny and clever but that dumb cheering for Sophie gots to go, even the actors seem to hate it.

reply

Likewise, I hate it. I love the actress and the character but I can't bear that endless forced laughter.

It reminds me of when they started doing it for Kramer on Seinfeld, which was equally annoying.

reply

"hey everybody"

It was not done as much in early television. There was a laugh track and in many cases, a studio audience, but only in a few cases did the audience go bonkers like they do now. I attribute it to the pre show warm ups going WAY overboard nowadays (in many cases to make up for the unfunny dialogue of some shows. I went to a magic show at Foxwoods Casino several years ago, and while it wasn't a horrible show, it had a lot of problems. But, after almost every magician's performance, and even during some of them, some people in the crowd would react as if they had seen a miracle. I believe, as I do with a lot of television studios, that professional laughers are employed to get the crowd to laugh on cue, or at least to react in a positive way.
