Four Major Problems this Season
IMO, the four biggest problems with this season are:
1.) Using the current political climate as a backdrop and motivating plot factor isn't clever. Its just obnoxious. Also, enough with the Jill Stein blame. Its already been proven that without any of her votes, Hillary still wouldn't have won.
2.) There is no plot. Nothing has really happened, or rather, what happened in the first episode has essentially been stretched over three episodes. So maybe there is a plot but there hasn't been any plot progression.
3.) I don't care about any of the characters. Just as with the political backdrop, the political caricatures they've created, rather than actual characters are not likeable. And if I don't care about any of them, then I don't care what happens to them.
4.) Its neither scary nor disturbing. Its called American HORROR Story. Where's the scares? Where's the disturbing? Where's the HORROR? I think a lack of a supernatural element is also contributing to this.
Some stray observations:
When did FX normalize the use of the word fuck? I don't have a problem with it, I just haven't noticed it in their other shows or any previous seasons of AHS until this one.
Evan Peters is an extremely attractive guy in general. He was especially nice to look at in Season 2. But this season he is truly hideous. Who knew blue hair and facial scrub could make him look so ugly? And I think that is another mistake this season. I think he'd be more effectively scary in his role if he was attractive. The clean cut look would've worked better. Something more Ted Bundyish.
