I'm just upset that it's set in modern times.

Word. Seems like this is the new model. All seasons present day w flashbacks. The period piece seasons are my favorites. I get they aren't for everyone but whether you liked it or not Asylum has always been considered one of the stronger seasons by a majority of fans, and while Freakshow was considered a let down by a lot of people when it aired a lot of people have changed their minds since then, myself included. It doesn't make sense to have two seasons set in other time frames and then just adandon that trend for the rest of the series, makes them feel out of place.

reply

I know what you mean. Freak Show has never been my favorite but the fact that is was set in the 50's made it so beautiful and surreal.

reply

The choice of time period seems like it has more to do with the needs of the overarching AHS Universe at this point. The amount of ties between seasons keeps growing and I think most of their decisions regarding plot moving forward will have more to do with that.

Less than forget. But more than begun.

I get it, it just sucks. If Asylum and Freakshow were of greater importance to the universe it would make sense bc it would set them apart from the rest but so far that hasn't been the case. Also makes me think no future season has any shot of being as visually stunning as what's already come.

reply

La La Land is one of the most visually stunning movies I've ever seen and it was set in modern times.

I'm just being bitter for the sake of being bitter,I'll get over it.

Happy New Year, Spivey🎇🎉🎊🎈🎆

Thanks same to you dani. Any burning desires for next season?

reply

Thanks champ. Melting here. Ghastly bloody heatwave.

My only burning desire with this show is my darling Denis.

reply

I'm sure he and Evan will have substantial roles, they kinda both got the shaft in Roanoke.

reply

Seeing as you've got the bitters, I'll bring the whisky and we'll have an Old Fashioned together. ;)

reply

I love the old-time seasons (yes, Freak Show too!) so much more than the new ones so I'm really disappointed :( I just hope it's better than Roanoke...

Oh you mean like found footage / ghost hunters Roanoake? Ya because we'd NEVER seen that before........

“Ryan has yet another really innovative idea for how to do something fresh and different with the franchise that audiences haven’t seen before, and there’s a marketing promotional hook around that.”

That part's exciting! At least they may be doing the whole secrecy thing in a brand new way.

i don't really care if it's a mystery theme or not. i liked it last year tho

reply

I miss when there were clues to the following season and he had it mostly planned and wasnt still filming trying to decide an ending while they were on episode 5 *coughCovencough*

I'm happy to see Sarah and Evan return, predictable though it may be. They're in the show's DNA at this point. I don't mind the mystery. I thought it was fun leading up to the premiere. I do want a proper title sequence again, though. My only real quibble is the present-day setting. It's not that I dislike present-set seasons, it's that I also like past-set seasons and want more of them.
