The ending was incredibly dumb.

A hybrid alien-human baby just doesn't make sense. First, her baby was gestating for a fair period of time, so a facehugger impregnating her afterward would mean that it would have to impregnate her at the exact time of conception in order for the DNA to match up. Also, facehuggers go through the throat and burst out of their chest (hence why they're called chestbursters), so how would a facehugger's egg even get to where the fetus already was? And if a half-human/half-alien baby happened, how come there was never mention of this in any of the sequels.

I understood the woman giving birth to the hybrid did so because she injected herself with the mysterious black goo introduced in Prometheus, that we're told is a potent mutagen that already lead to the creation of the first xenomorphs in the history of the saga's universe.

I don't remember when Prometheus takes place. Was it a prequel to Alien? But I don't recall her consuming any black goo in this.

Kay injects herself with the black goo just before she goes in the hibernation pod - easy to miss that scene if you blink. That's what caused her fetus to mutate into the alien hybrid and grow so rapidly.

Thanks. They should have made that a little more obvious. I texted my friend about the movie after I saw it because he saw it the day before I did, and he was confused about it too.
