It pays homage to all Alien films except Alien 3 and Covenant...

... Or I didn't catch them.

reply

The black goo they were transporting off the space station was in both Prometheus and Covenant.

reply

I take that as reference to Prometheus, as the OST and the final Monster, which looks like a deformed Engineer, but nothing specifically of Covenant.

reply

Gotcha. I was thinking more in terms of linked plot elements than thematic homages.

As far as Covenant, the closest thing that comes to mind is David with many xenomorphs eggs and transporting them for experimenting with new life-forms, and Rook with many facehuggers and transporting the goo for experimenting with new human life-forms.

And as far as Alien 3, it takes place on a planet that serves as a foundry and a prison, while Romulus is initially set in a mining colony in which its workers are essentially indentured servants for many years if not for life, so also a sort of prison.

Maybe there are better ones, but that's what I can think of for now.

reply

I hadn't thought about the prison idea, although It is much better established here than in Alien 3.

For Alien 3 also when a xenomorph prevents the protagonist from failing in the elevator and approaches her face, a very forced moment btw.

reply

the hybrid looking freak at the end kind of resembles the "engineers"
also the hybrid was from Alien3

idk about Covenant because i skipped that one

reply

Remaking the scenes is not exactly homage. It is good that they acknowledged 1,2,4 and not 3. But Prometheus? Seriously?

They also acknowledged the video game Alien: Isolation by modeling the space station after the one in the game (which may took it from some other media that I'm unacquainted with). Alien: Isolation is one of the best entries in the franchise.

reply

It's an excellent homage. It ever manager to make sense of the disaster of Prometheus, a mission which looked impossible.

reply

Prometheus is much better than 3 and this one.

reply

Please, Prometheus is a disaster 🤦
Damn Damon Lindelof, he waS a truly cancer fot Hollywood, even Ridlet Scott had to make Covenant like a a sort of apology for the worst movie he has ever directed.

reply

it had the Alien 3 Fox fan fare https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLS89me3t-U

reply

Some motifs from the OST are lifted from Alien 3, as is the glitchy 20th Century Fox logo.

reply

One of the women was bald. Like Ripley in Alien 3. Does that count?

reply

Did they ever make a "Hey don't fck my wife when I'm away" joke? If they did, that is definitely a Covenant homage, because they make that joke about 10 times in Covenant.

reply

What was the direct reference to Resurrection?

reply

The ship/laboratory to study xenomorphs/the Black gloo and the final hybrid Monster.

reply

The entire last part? Even the end was fairly similar.

reply

Sure but that's not a "direct reference," just similar things happening. Having Ian Holm is a DIRECT reference to Alien; saying "get away from her, you bitch" is a DIRECT reference to Aliens. You know?

reply

Well, counts to me as reference.
