Any True Fans Agree With This Post?

I am curious if I am in the minority and I could very well be. First, I am going to do my best to keep this short as I can type forever and I know people do not like reading long posts, yet prefer getting to the point asap. I am hoping to get answers from hard core fans who have been watching since the very beginning. Let me begin and say that I understand a lot of the thinking that a show like this one must grow and evolve. Examples maybe the computer evolving to have a mind of its own and to make its own decisions in order to protect itself. They say it must keep pushing the envelope by going to new places and create "fuzzy dice" to keep as many bodies coming back for more because of the "neat stuff". I would argue that you do not need fancy things nor gimmicks as we the audience are intelligent enough and will end up caring for the characters if done so properly, i.e. great writing/character development. They new this after season 1 with a perfect cast with great writing.
So true fans, season 1 and probably season 2 were my favorite hands down. I could have went on with that setup without the computer doing all that crazy stuff for as long as the show aired. I enjoyed Reese and Finch working the numbers in NYC with the computer doing minimal. Along side those 2 were Fusco and Carter doing their part and making the show complete for me. Yet, Nolan and company felt that it was necessary for the audience/fans alike to see a large involvement of the computer system (The Machine) and add some lesbo action to the mix. I want to emphasis that I did not want that and was disappointed the minute they went down that road. So, are there any fans out there who would have liked what I would have liked, more of the first 2 seasons into season 3 and on? More or less a continuation of Season 1 and probably season 2. Or do you think you would have gotten bored with Reese and Finch chasing the usual 1 number down? I loved them in the library with the dog and staying local in NYC. Reese always had some good moves to show off every week and Finch being there to get him the info and whatever support needed. Please let me know what you think:)

I liked the show becoming more serialized, but I probably would still be watching if it had remained a procedural. I mean, I still watch Criminal Minds and it has been the same for ten years. Lol. As for the "lesbo action" as you (rather insultingly) called it, I hate Shaw no matter what her orientation is. I would have been happy if she had never joined the show. I like Root though.

Just goes to show you how subjective liking or disliking characters is. I love Shaw and hate Root, always have. It's been a struggle to accept The Machine taking Root's voice, since her voice is extremely irritating to me. I was so pleased that Finch didn't take to it right away either.

Amen to this!

I had to struggle to accept that Shaw hadn't died in a glorious hail of bullets, and would be returning to the show. So I totally understand ;)

Nope I agree with you 100% ive been with this show since day one and much prefer seasons 1+2 over the following seasons. It wasnt just the procedural element as the show was branching into Reeses cia past with Stanton and Snow but also Harolds past was been shown. I liked the reoccuring guest characters they found along the way Zoe and Leon much more than Shaw and Root who I have never been a fan of but also I think they ruined their characters making them regualar players they should have stayed bit players. They were on the right path with the show in season 2 and it showed as one of the few things that normally happens on tv the shows rating actually increased in season 2. Last of all the quality and style in the early seasons were on a higher level like 24, Great acting scenes and action with Reese kickin ass every episode. So all in all as a big fan of the series overall seasons 1 and 2 will always be my favourite's I wish the show would have continued like that.

Thank you for the laugh! :)

Your screed would have been less annoying with "paragraph breaks." Look 'em up.

I've enjoyed all seasons of the show as it's evolved. And I'm not homophobic enough to find the touch of F/F attraction offensive.

To maintain dramatic tension they had to make changes as the series went along, but I agree that the foundation characters were interesting enough to base the stories upon. I wanted to see more involvement from the computer which simply added to the fun of Reese and Finch.

I didn't mind the addition of Shaw and really grew to appreciate and enjoy Root as part of the team. The loss of Carter was tough, but the stories persevered. I wouldn't have even minded Samaritan as a storyline if it hadn't taken over the show and so threatened team Machine. The redemption of Fusco was a good story, as was the semi-redemption of Elias.

I think the program could have continued several more seasons in that context.

Well, you worked so hard to clean that up, that I feel like responding.

First, I've only been on IMDb for less than four years, but I *know* one thing for certain: no tv show is going to please everyone.

That being the case, I can only speak for me and my experience. I love this show, in all its iterations, and that surprises me, because I'm not that fond of serial tv shows. The problem with serials is the continuity, the detail to the world that has been built and the canon are sacrosanct. Most showrunners are too lazy to properly story board, or there are too many writers on board that don't understand the show, or the writers don't understand the characters. That has *never* happened here.

The other thing is, even when they are fighting for their lives, all through most episodes of season 4 and even most of season 5, they still worked the numbers! How did people miss this?? Every time I see this complaint, "I liked the show when they worked the numbers...." I have to wonder what has changed? And what they mean is they don't like the focus on the machine and Samaritan.

This show was always about an AI that becomes an ASI, battling another ASI. Greer has been around since season 1, trying to find Samaritan and trying to find The Machine. While he worked mostly off screen during the early seasons, we saw more interaction with the numbers. When he got Samaritan up and running, the numbers became less the focus, but still important. But viewers are correct, the focus switched to survival, not only of our intrepid group, but of humanity.

How could you find that boring?

But some did, and that just leads me to understand, that not everyone will be pleased. I'm sure there are tv shows that other people love that I don't get, on an emotional or entertainment level. So, I don't like them. But I don't demand that they be something they are not so I *might* like them. That's the part that feels like an offensive volley aimed at something I enjoy.

So, according to the thread title, I'm not a "true fan." But, honestly, I think I am and others are not. Because I like the show just as it is and not as something it isn't.

I completely agree with you. I love this show just the way it is. There are very few shows I love as much as this one.

Others may not like it and that's fine. There's plenty of entertainment out there to suit each taste.

I agree with you 100%. I loved this show from day 1 to the end. I am currently on rewatch and am in season 2. The rewatch so far has been so rewarding, you can see every single thread laid out from day 1. This show is going to go down as one of my all time favorites and everyone who I recommend it to ends of loving it. Most of my friends are big time serialized show fans, breaking bad, Game of Thrones, and they hate procedurals, but they could see the overarching themes from the beginning and when it finally become more of serialized focus, they loved it even more for all the time that was spent setting up these various storylines. To me this show is like a novel. I loved how the show always changed focus every 10-11 eps. Wonderful characters, great story. I recommend it to everyone who wants a good show.
