On Letting Go...

I've watched three of Makoto Shinkai's films in the last month now, and I have to say this was very close to being my favourite. True, it did feel very Ghibli-esque with the fantasy elements (although Place Promised had a similar mix with sci-fi) I think the central premise was beautifully conveyed.

His films all seem to have something to do with loss, on grief and on how to live after losing something precious to us, and while 5cms covered these themes in the best possible way, I also adored this one for spending - in essence - an entire film exploring what happens in a few seconds (as the characters pass each other in adulthood) at the end of 5cms.

Truly a visionary director, hope he makes many more films. Definitely recommend watching this one.

5 Centimeters Per Second is in our top 20 movies of all time! Hope you'll watch it and comment on it here too.
Do you know where we can watch it online? Netflix doesn't have it!

If you're talking about 5 centimeters per second I found it on youtube there are multiple versions. I also believe Place Promised in Our EarlyDays is there.
