Why Netflix cut ‘13 Reasons Why’ suicide scene after years of controversy

Maybe Im just dumb, but I dont see how removing that scene doesnt then make the show exactly what the parents said it was in the first place? "it romanticises suicide", they said. And they were right, it did. And then that last episode came and ripped that idea to shreds. It showed how sad, how lonely, how tragic, how brutal, how painful it is. It took away the notion that it was something easy. Now though, its just all the romance of a person killing themselves as an act of revenge with none of the brutal reality of it.
I see they point to a rise in suicides since the show aired. I cant help but roll my eyes at that inclusion as its just so bullshit.
The researchers said the study had limitations and they could not make a direct causal link between “13 Reasons Why” and the increase in suicide rates or rule out other factors.
Kinda lost respect for them....the scene is depicting a suicide...it should be off putting. The director did his job then if its distressing viewers. They should have stayed true to their original vision. What goods it changing it now? It only detracts from the original intent....the suicide scene should be hard to watch.
shareJust rewatched 01x13, and it's too bad they took it away. Glad to have seen before, now all the climax is much weaker. I agree with the previous posters: though the story clearly delivers, the current editing makes it not offputting at all, and it DOES risk to have weaker minds romanticize suicide. Visually, at least.
shareI watched the first season when it first came out and never finished the series. I watched it again now, and when it came to the scene in season one, I remember feeling like maybe I was just too sensitive the first time or something because I thought the scene was brutal the first time and this time it was a lot easier to watch.
Well, this explains it!
