"26 year old David Doherty was at Cumbria’s Appleby Horse Fair when he was set upon by the band of yobs.

The bare knuckle fighter was slashed across his back and buttocks in the incident and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Five men have been arrested in connection with the incident at Britain’s largest gypsy fair..."

"An 18-year-old woman has claimed she was raped yards from Britain's biggest gypsy fair.
The alleged attack took place during the Appleby Horse Fair in Appleby-In-Westmorland, Cumbria, at about 8.30pm on Saturday.
The victim, who is a local woman, said she was walking with a friend to get a taxi to Penrith on the eastbound slip road of the A66 at the Appleby turn-off, when she was attacked."

I don't like violence, so it saddens me to hear that this has happened. I'm sure this type of thing has happened many times before but it hasn't been as known on a global level due to the show. I feel bad for people who have just shown how they live and then are attacked for it. I really think Paddy seems like a nice enough fellow. I'm sure some of the dislike from other travelers is possibly just tall-poppy syndrome.

I wonder if the media payed them as much attention before the show aired. I really feel bad that the UK families shown have some serious issues they are dealing with. I think TLC has some bad timing, or not even the timing, but showing them in a way that will inspire people to receive the Traveler's with negativity seems downright wrong. The scene where the law smacked that woman down into the mud puddle was disgusting. That little boy watching homes being bowled over...it was terrible to see woman and children treated like that.

Considering the housing, medical, education, etc things they are going through in the UK, it seems TLC could have done something to help create a bridge of understanding.

I really hope PBS or another network will revisit some of the earlier documentaries - maybe even provide some updates.

The whole concept kind of feels like a kick someone while they are down kind of thing.

I hope the second season goes in depth and tries to do something positive for their culture.

I didn't make it through last nights episode, maybe about half way. I don't know if I will catch another.

lol .. that sounds like the majority of teen boys who've appeared on the show ...

Thanks for posting those btw ... very interesting reading. I noticed the first story you posted said something about one of the guys who was arrested said something like "read gypsies don't go around grabbing girls." (I sure hope that is true.)
