Season 5 --Best of the Series Contains Spoliers

Establishes Malachi as a super bad dude and pits several plot points into play. Also, deals with Henry's attempt to live in both worlds (Native and White) which has put him in a dangerous situation.

Mathias as a Police Chief trying to do the right thing though not always through legal means. Reminds you of someone? Yup, Walt.

Cady Longmire is her father’s daughter and she’s tired of his crap. She too is torn between two worlds living with her mother's memory and father's expectations. I have a sneaking suspicion she and Nighthorse are gonna do it. Cassidy Freeman killed it this season.

Jacob Nighthorse aka Blankenship doesn’t matter the name just that A Bone Martinez was fantastic as he plays the duality between good and evil.

Ferg got his groove on. Ferg just keeps getting better.

Donna is gone. Thank you, Jesus.

We see the duality of Walt's character; the selfishness and selflessness, the hardness and tenderness.

The best of the season was Walt and Vic being Walt and Vic again. The humor, trust, and comraderie is back with a vengeance and that is the essence of the show; the relationships between the characters.

The largest flaw of the season was Vic’s pregnancy. It humanized her character but it is an unnecessary plot device to postpone the inevitable and welcomed relationship with her and Walt.

Nothing is perfect but Longmire is damn close.

It's the best show of a generation. Hands down.

I really enjoyed watching Matthias and Henry work together this season. It really showed a different side to Matthias and we got to see him actually care about his people, not just be a jerk. I hope we see more of him next season.

I'm anxious to see where this whole Cady and Jacob thing goes....it would certainly make things interesting; not to mention Walt's reaction to it.

I was so glad that Ferg got his grove! He works as hard as anybody in that department, and it's nice to see something good happen to him and see him be a good deputy, as well.

Totally agree with you about Donna! The sooner she's gone, the better! God help us!

Last season, Walt didn't hardly even talk to Vic. There were so many times when he just shut her out, so it was definitely nice to see them together again, like before.

Not sure how i feel about the whole pregnancy thing....but we'll see. I actually like Travis (ultimately I want her with Walt, but oh well) and Eamonn isn't bad either. It's always fun to watch Vic and Travis have a conversation about anything.

Really enjoyed this season!! Can't wait for the next one!!

While I can agree with almost all of these wonderful points, I almost feel like I may be on my own in my dislike of Ferg??:(. I don't have a viseral hate if his character, but I find him to be the 'weak link'. When he seemed to be flirting with Vic, and is now dating. It almost feels as if he is meant to take on the character that Branch was. I've also always leaned towards thinking that he gets sulky and pouts, instead of moving forward and just being sure in his own skin.

I love the fleshing out of Maddy and Jacob. Mathias and Henry having to toe the line of what is right and wrong, is a reminder that the Rez is a whole different world. I especially love the transformation of Jacob Nighthorse's character. I think it's safe to say, that there are quite a few of us totally ok with A relationship of some sorts between Cady and Nighthorse! It would be an epic thing to see Walts reaction, that's for sure!
Donna gone....ya!!!! So so happy. I didn't mind Vic's pregnancy, but I don't like the added burden of (Travis!!) maybe being the father. He is an overgrown man child, and may impede Vic and Walt getting together:(

All in all, season is strong and has some great developments in it!! I hope it continues to thrill us:)

Ferg changed up last season. I'm not sure he dealt with the trauma of Branch plus he feels completely guilty and pissed off with how Walt fired Zack. For me, Ferg is still finding his way and is not always confident. It's why he waited to call Walt to pick him up. There was fear there. Fear of disappointment because while he doesn't agree with Walt all the time he still respects him and like Vic he's tired of Walt's crap.

I feel you though because Ferg seems to go from funny just on the tip of success when he messes up. I dig the character though because he's constantly evolving.

When I saw the subject line I immediately thought..."Oh no it was not", but then I read your post and now I am inclined to agree with you.

I only watched the last ep yesterday and I was a tad annoyed at all the cliffhangers and I think that tainted my view of the season. You make some very good points.

I do like how Mathias, Ferg and Nighthorse has been fleshed out and how we no longer always see things from Walt's point of view.

I also agree that Vic's pregnancy was unnecessary. At first I thought the writers agreed too when she got assaulted by that crazy survivalist chick, but apparently not. I don't agree with your use of "humanized" though. I think we have already seen a lot of that with her relationship with her husband and then her stalker and her feelings for Walt.

I totally get your point about the exception to the word humanized. You're right. I could have picked a better word. Her reaction to her pregnancy made me really like her character. I admit, I've struggled with Vic. A lot. This season though the writing was perfect and Vic was all that I always wanted her to be; funny, mature, not taking Walt's crap, professional, a great cop, she even wore a shirt under her uniform the entire season (lol) My point being, that they fixed her and now I can absolutely see her and Walt moving forward together.

I also think this was the best season to see the chemistry between Walt and Vic. I'm hoping it's a sign of more good things to come next season.

OK I see what you mean now. I agree it was a good season for her character development. She is a complex person and now we are really beginning to see that.

I think one of the strengths of the show (if not the #1 strength) is its character development. That is what drives longevity of a show IMO. Characters that are interesting and those you care about (even if it is to "hate" them). In that sense I see some similarities to Justified. Complex characters that you cared about even if they were "baddies".

I still am taking this season slow, so only up to S5E4. But since I already know about the pregnancy, what do you think the plan is going to be? Why are they throwing that story line in. The books do have her get pregnant and it is assumed it is Walt, but that all ends during a knife fight.

Great questions. I really haven't a clue where they will go with the story line? I can only say, for me, that is really softened Vic up a lot and it made me really love her character for the first time, really. Kinda hard to explain. I just have to trust the writers on this one. It doesn't bother me, just in the sense, that I'm afraid it may be a ploy to keep Walt and Vic apart longer than necessary but it may also be what brings them together?

The moment where he tracks down the mob to the bar to, ahem, "deliver fish" was freaking fantastic. Made me want to cheer.
