Season 5
So I'm a couple episodes in and it just feels like a jumbled mess, does anyone else agree? I'm still enjoying it, it just seems like it was thrown together the first couple of episodes.

shareI'm halfway through then season, it gets better. But I agree, just a mess at the beginning.
shareI'm on episode 8 and it's still a jumbled mess. Irish mob? Drugs? Idiotic depositions for a ridiculous lawsuit? Plus there's more! I expect more of this show.
shareOmg, that bombastic, overacted nonsense of Chase Gilbert representing himself. I think the writers gave Peter Stormare some fanservice and just told him to do whatever. That scene was so unnecessary.
shareI came here to say the same thing. I was so glad to see a new season of Longmire was release, but this season is rough. Not only is it a jumbled mess of highly improbable bad guys and interactions, but it is impatient in its dealings feeling the need to almost let each episode stand on its own crappy plot line. To me Longmire has lost the patience it once had in developing deep and enduring characters and conflicts...I guess such degradation has been expanding for a while, but season 5 is the worst. TBH, I look forward to season 6 with dread if it's more of the same.
Lastly, now that this is developed for Netflix, don't they understand that most will binge-watch episodes? It seems they are still producing it as if it were a weekly TV series. Odd behavior like having a high-tension cliff hanger only to have the next episode display immediately with a thumbnail resolving the supposed conflict. These kinds of missteps indicate sloppy production IMO. Long live Longmire!! (so long as it doesn't suck)

Overall a decent season, but I did have a few probes with it...
At the end of Ep1, Walt rehired Aemon. But then we didn't wee Aemon again until about Ep4 or Ep5 when he hired him as a temp security guard. That didn't make any sense.
During the murder trial, the cult guy (forget his name) acted like a loony-toon, and Vic's lawyer never once objected. Also, it felt like the audience was supposed to feel like he nailed the cross examination and had won over the jury. I just thought I was watching a bad sitcom court scene.
What was up with Cowboy Bill? I thought for sure he was going to be the main baddie in the last episode or two. But instead, it was just a radio-sub-plot. Why bother?
He didn't rehire him. He offered him a job once he had to leave Cumberland County. Chance IS a loony toon. He acted accordingly and he did bring out important points like it's not *beep* normal to fight a gun duel over your deputy being released.
Cowboy Bill will probably be back in season 6 but I agree there were lose threads like Donna's son..he will be back too..that was a huge plot line they didn't follow.
Netflix needs to renew Longmire this *beep* gets better every season.

Idk what's with S.5 too. Why has Walt been such an unlikable character this season? I mean, I can't believe I find myself in this situation, but I'm liking Nighthorse more than Walt this time.
shareYeah, Walt needs to let it go........either that or this is one of about 100 things that were left unresolved, and we find out in Season 6 that his instincts are correct. I love this show but season 5 left WAY too many things as cliffhangers. It's starting to remind me of Lost.
shareOn another thread, this was a theory about his changed behavior:
It is because of his repeated head traumas. Remember the beginning of the episode where he was getting an MRI and the doctor was talking to him about how many concussions and head injuries he'd had?

The producers of this show must have no law enforcement consultant. A civil lawsuit (wrongful death) against a sheriff, acting in his capacity as sheriff, who has to hire his own lawyer? He would have liability insurance that would cover him and his department, and the insurance company would provide counsel.
shareAnd no legal consultant. Those "deposition hearings" were absolutely ludicrous. Arguments and accusations, not resembling any depositions I have ever read.
shareI am still trying to figure out who is bringing the lawsuit. Wrongful death. How is that? What was wrongful about it. Also, if Barlow and Branch are both dead than who is the estate going to and who would be bringing a wrongful death suit in the first place.

No it doesn't feel like a mess.
