Questions about the Longmire books

Hi all,

I am a huge fan of this series. I'd like to read the books this is based upon. Can any of the book fans here answer a couple of questions for me please?

1- Are the books standalone stories (like the Jack Reacher series)where it doesn't matter which one you read first. Or do they have continuing stories ongoing throughout the books, meaning you have to read in order?

2- Are the main characters the same or different to how they are portrayed on screen?

I believe they do follow an order..... Start with the first book...

Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them

Thank you.

Each book is a standalone mystery but the character development and backstories of the characters progress through the books. I suggest reading them in order but you don't have to.

Walt is older in the books. Vic is very different much more saucy. Henry physically is different than LDP. Cady isn't that prevalent in the books other than in Walt's thoughts and is more capable. Ferg in the books is much older, married, and not prevalent. Branch is based loosely on Turk in the book but he is only in the first book. Walt has several other deputies in the books that are not found in the TV series.

To me the books stand on their own as does the series and are more different than alike.

Hi snowdogmom,

Many thanks for the helpful information. I'll look into getting the complete book series to read.

Looking forward to reading them.

In the books Walt and Henry both served in Vietnam, Walt has a dog, and we got to meet Vic's family in the third book
