the final season was perfect

I binge watched the entire series over the few weeks and I absolutely love this series. First two seasons were more like a guilty pleasure, but season 3 was great and season 4 was just marvelous. Loved every moment. And that finale? Ugh, PERFECT

It's kind of sad that this show had to go when it finally found its voice. But anyway, I'm glad it had a proper, perfect closure. I wish all the best for the actors, especially Wilson Bethel and... Kaitlyn Black.

You thought season 3 was great? Really?

I think season 3 was by far the low point of the series and the weakest story wise. It moved, much, much too slowly until about the last 3 or 4 episodes and then went at warp speed. It's possible you don't pick up on that as much if you are binge watching it but oh, if you watched it in really time, it was almost painful at some points. And I say that as a huge fan!

I do agree that season 4 was wonderful and that it's really unfortunate that the CW canceled it just as it was "refinding" it's voice (I actually thought they had found it by the second half of season 1 and certainly season 2). (The show just doesn't fit with the current CW, all scifi/superhero, all the time, motto).

I'm certainly glad we got that 10 episode 4th season to give it "proper" closure although I would hesitate to say perfect. I'm a little more critical of that finale then a lot of people. I liked it but I wouldn't call it perfect since we don't know the name of the baby. I have a few other more minor issues too. It was a good ending but I would have really liked another 10-13 episodes so we could see Wade and Zoe as parents, see Lemon and Lavon actually being together (they had very little time when they were actually together considering how quickly they got married, I think there could have been some interesting stories there), see what happens with AB and George (does she move to Nashville? do they keep doing the long distance thing? does he come back to Bluebell), etc.

As for season 3, binge watching might have helped me. I did see a lot of fans hating season 3 but I kind of think that's because the fans were frustated about not enough Zoe and Wade as a couple. I already kinda knew that they eventually end up together so it wasn't anxious for me. But most of all, as much as I loved Zoe and Wade together I was sooooo over with their drama and Zoe's neverending weird crush towards George. I mean, the writing in the second half of season 2 was awful. (especially in that episode where George's mom kidnaps Zoe and George.... I mean..😨 it was a shame since first half was pretty good) So by paring each Zoe and Wade with different partner (with much less drama), the show felt much more relaxed than previous seasons. I always found Hart of Dixie to be better when there were less drama and more just enjoyable and happy events. In the end I was able to enjoy it a lot more, purely on entertainment-level. And Joel really grew on me. Not much a fan of Wade's girlfriend though.

While many ZW fans wanted them together faster, the reason why fans was unhappy with season 3 was the huge focus on Joel and how they handled ZW after episode 2. I don't think many was anxious about ZW getting back together - we all knew Joel would go away but he got more screentime than anyone not named Zoe in the episodes he was in. To give that much focus to a character we all knew were going to be gone by season's end was just unbearable to watch.

That Zoe came home to BB with a bf was good angst and I was looking forward to it. The first 2 episodes were great but then it went downhill fast. Zoe kept being mean to Wade, everbody thought Joel was the best thing since sliced bread - winning the MOTY was just cringeworthy - I have never rolled my eyes so much than during that. Also Joel never found out about Wade and Zoe which is what they teed up from 301 when Zoe told Joel, Wade was her neighbor and then "just a fling". Then Joel thought George was the Act I guy. Nothing happened and then Joel returned in 322 and told Zoe to go after Wade. That was a huge letdown for me.

Joel was much worse for me than Vivian. Vivian served a purpose in most of the scenes she was in. Joel didn't.
