'Partial Renovations'

I watched a show today where a couple bought a dump that the brothers said could be renovated. However, the only part of the house that was renovated was the first level. Yes, the living room/ dining area & kit hen looked nice, but NOTHING was done upstairs! So the couple has sucky bedrooms & bathrooms and no more money to renovate them.

I like the show, but feel a number of the couples get cheated. Many are encouraged to buy fixer uppers that need extensive work, but usually only a few rooms are renovated & they are then left with some ugly, unfinished rooms.

I have watched 3 episodes tonight, and they were all kitchen living room & dining room reno. When they first toured the houses they did show the gross bedrooms & bathrooms. It's really bugging me too lol.

Ok, just read in an interview that they do renovate the entire house, & that the netwark only shows a couple of rooms. That makes me feel better ;)

I watch way too much television

They do the whole house. From searching for a home to finishing a reno it takes about 4 months. It takes that long to search, bid, buy a house, escro, etc. So once the house is found, inspections, bartering, contracts, escro, former homeowners have to move out, then the reno begins & they stick to their timeline cuz they have other projects to get to. They get real estate agents in the area that they are filming at to bring in clients which is why they looked surprised every ep. HGTV gives them 10k to help & they guys get tons of discounts, the borthers also don't charge for their services since they are paid by HGTV, & last they whole house is done-HGTV just show a few rooms. I would love the show to be expanded to a full hour so we can see more rooms or at least have pictures available on the website.

cajunbluesbaby,
The Property Brothers I watch is a sixty minute program. Are we talking about the same show?

Take a chance, flip a coin, everything is 50/50

lol yes. I just realized that when I wrote that post I had the show paused at the half way mark. My bad. I've been obsessively watching the show for weeks lol. So that being said. I still would like to see more of the renovated rooms than jsut the ones they show on TV. They could still put pics up on HGTV.com

cajunbluesbaby,
Yeah, it would be nice to see everything. Less showing of the work and more of the finished product.

Nope. Not a lawyer. I'm a cop's wife, an actress, a writer, & an avid DIYer. So I get impassioned about certain topics. A show like this coupled with the fact that u broke the law had me into diatribe mode. I'm also a very fast typist so when I get an idea about something, it kind of flows through me very quickly. I end up writing essays and stuff for different submissions super quick or when I get on IMDB and have an opinion I end up with one thing I'm gonna say then I look at what I write & go "Holy crap! I didn't mean to write an essay. " Lol. Sorry bout that. I take breaking the law seriously & I don't like how the anonymity of the internet makes ppl think they're immune to the law, immune to common decency, etc. I didn't think you meant any harm on purpose, that's why I was warning u. Libel is taken very seriously. Social networking & forums etc aren't immune from it. I'm sorry it didn't work out for you. I know that must be disappointing. I know I would be to get so excited and then have it not be what you thought it would be. However, you also have to remember that these are ppl's livelihoods. Even though these guys are TV Personalities & HGTV is a big network, the crew that work for both are not. They are ppl trying to make a living for their families. I've encountered so many ppl through the years that think that if ppl are famous, they're allowed to bully, harass, gossip, etc. Ppl are ppl. We should all try to respect one another & be mindful of the things we say and how they impact ppl's lives.

I detect your sarcasm. Doesn't bother me. I'm very sarcastic myself lol. BTW you forgot singer in that little diatribe. YOu know what? I just saw that u were talking about that show Income Property. I thought you were talking about Property Brothers. My bad. Just looked back at your old post. But if you're talking about Income Property you should've put it on those forums. It was confusing. The shows are different premises so they don't necessarily handle the budgets the same. My apologies. I'm a big enough person to admit when I'm wrong. However, I must say that there's never a reason to be disrespectful. I said what I said with as much respect as I could. I never insulted you. I stated a few facts that u didn't like & u jumped down my throat. You just got mean & sarcastic. Sarcasm is a defense mechanism.

You referred to Income Property in your post. This is a forum for Property Brothers. U should put your post up on Income Property forums. It's confusing to have it on here. That show has the same brothers. Different premise. Not the case here. I've read several articles & heard from a few different ppl who've been on the show and talked about it. You have the option of doing the whole house if you want. You don't have to. HGTV edits it how they want. As for the expensive pieces, that's the MSRP. They don't pay that. Designers get a huge discount. I really wanna get on an HGTV show. That would be awesome. What are the odds lol. Every time I go into Menards I hope to bump into one of the Crasher guys.
