Please mix it up a little!

Honestly, I love the brothers and the show, but all of the houses look the same in the end! Every single one has an "open concept," all of them have hardwood floors, and all of them are decorated in a modern style. You know, there ARE people out there who don't want the world and his brother seeing their kitchen --- I'm one of them. And while I happen to like wood floors, not everyone does. And not everyone likes modern decor, either! So please, please mix it up a little, Property Brothers!

Some of their designs are for "people who come home after a long, demanding day of work and read the paper or watch the evening news with their work shoes still on" I tell myself. Some of the designs are just not comfy looking. They look too art gallery-ish. Some furniture doesn't belong in the living room of a 2k sq ft house where there isn't a separate living room and den. I don't mind the open floor plans too much but the stainless steel/granite/hardwood floors and then the flat screen over fireplace with the white rectangular couches and matching dining furniture...nothing says "come sit here and relax".

They all look like generic showplaces. They're the way I would fix up a house if I were going to put it on the market, but not if I were going to live in it.

Agreed!

I love this show, but it's getting old after 20 episodes :-P

I'd love to see them do a pub basement or things like that.

Honestly, so true. My tastes are so completely opposite from their clean and open designs. Like, in every way.

I remember one episode where a house had these amazing brick arches in the basement... Everyone was like "ugh I hate these, so ugly" and I thought "oh my gosh I love those arches, I would never get rid"

Also I love closed spaces. I'd love a house with oak paneled walls... Everything they do is always so open! I could never relax with all that space.

I dunno, I guess if you like generic beauty then their work is perfect. I love personality!

Actually, they recently aired a show that almost gave me a heart attack, as the wife wanted to keep the red-brick fireplace and the parquet flooring. It was so refreshing to hear a buyer say that, and I loved Jonathan's consternation at her desire to keep the old features.

I was so glad she stood up to him. He wanted to remove the parquet because some sections were loose and he claimed it would be too difficult to sand. Well, the floor man was able to take it slowly and the floor was able to be restored. Jonathan just wanted to do what would be quick and easy FOR HIM. I was really disgusted with Jonathan after viewing that episode.

I agree. Not everyone wants the real hardwood floors in their vintage house replaced with laminate, or their original windows thrown out in favor of vinyl. Open concept is for studio apartments and motel rooms. But I imagine all of the people who apply to be on the show do like those things, which is why they choose the Property Brothers experience. If I had a house that needed that kind of work, I'd seek out Brett Waterman and the "Restored" crew.
