Why in hell houses in the USA cost that much?

I live in quebec canada and i stumble on this show the other day DAMN this is insane, you guy buy garbage houses for 800K. Here you can have new houses 2 or 3 times biggers for like 300k( in canadian dollars).

I honestly dont understand how you can afford that.

A 800k house here would be a mansion with 3 garages and a propriety as big as 2 football fields.

Actually, they do a lot of these shows in Toronto. That's why they don't say the city.

USA homes (used ones) do not cost that much at all.
It depends on where the show is shot, though.
Example: In California, where the show FLIP or FLOP is shot, you can see some actual prices for used homes in "not so nice areas" of Los Angeles.
And also if you look at ZILLOW, there are many reasonably prices used homes out there in just about any state of the Union.
But it's just that the brothers ,for some reason, choose to renovate homes in somewhat expensive areas. Not sure why they do that?

Believe me I've wondered the same thing and I'm in the USA. Where I live homes are not this expensive at all! It seems homes on the west coast cost a lot more and so is the cost of living. Yet it still blows my mind how much some of these homes cost compared our family home.

A lot of those houses are in Canada. They never say it's the US and you can hear a Canadian accent from the buyers.

I reject your reality and substitute my own.

They seem to go to pricy areas. Here you can find a nice home for $200K with no problem. My friend lives is Oshawa and she told me that you can't buy a nice house for under $500K.

For the US, it depends what part of the country you live in, and then even what part of the city you live in. Where I live, you can get something around $150k or you can spend $750k easily.

If you compare the HUGE FIXER UPPER HOMES being sold in WACO, TX to the SMALLER HOMES on FLIP FLOP,

then you'll see how $300,000 gets you thousands of SQUARE FEET more for your buck than a $400,000 to $700,000 priced HOME in the LA area that only has about 1,000 SQ FEET.

So in addition to the condition of a home or it's size, it's definitely also the LOCATION of a HOME that determines HOW MUCH one pays for it.

Chip is now showing a couple a 2,700 SQ FOOT HOME for $10,000 (built in 1929), which cost $100,000 TOTAL with the RENOVATIONS done to it).

And sometimes one also sees a TINY HOUSE with LESS than 400 SQ FEET being sold for 7 TIMES that much (or for $70,000).

Today they also showed a TINY HOUSE, for example, that was ATTACED to an OLD BEAT UP LOOKING TRUCK that probably only had about 100 SQ FEET, and the man said the asking price was $75,000 for it.

Even the RV'S that people buy instead of TINY HOMES can also cost as much as a home does in WACO.

I don't understand this whole "tiny house" thing. If that's the square footage you want, why go this route? Why not just get a frigging R.V.? There's a lot of nice ones out there now for the same price or less as these stupid "tiny homes."
