Why so many threads about box office results?

Wouldn't one be enough?
It almost feels like some people are using troll flaming techniques to bury the actual discussions about the movie.

It's like they're obsessed with box office earnings. Oh, so it made $100 million more or less than such-and-such other superhero movie -- Marvel or DC -- so what?

It's wonderful and I'm happy for all the rich folks who got even richer but does there have to be a thread for every weekend? It's like these people are relatives of the Marvel or Disney execs and just need to brag.

Check out my new one!

Isn't this a thread about Box office results also?

That's so odd and random, isn't it?

tl;dr... Sports stats for comicbook movie geeks..

long version...

The corporations have figured out that you can bread sports-team like fanaticism in movie fans in the same way as you can in commercialised sport...

It's genius, as the crowds become invested in the score taking and stats measurebating aspect of these "fandoms", i.e. fanatical support of tribe...

A big box office for Marvel means that "we" have won, our team beath theirs, but what about next week? etc...

It's brilliant as you have people constantly talking about the results of these movies, without discussing the movies themselves, without noticing that they have become trapped in never ending cycle of following their team play the same game over and over again... Watching the same basic movie being recycled...

It's like those TV soap operas... Never ending... A money pump for the studios 😉
