Failed by plot

Wow just watched Chappie, it looked AMAZING, pretty good dialogue, great FX, cool to see ninja and yolandi on the big screen, but what about that plot?? It was retarded, Short Circuit deals way better with similar themes and that's a blinking kids movie.

OK Chappie started well but then all this mummy/daddy bollix got annoying. Instead of wasting so much time faffing, Jackman and Weaver could have been given space to make their characters less one-dimensional.

By the end i didnt really care any more, as mentioned elsewhere here it for sure would have been easier to hack a power source than transfer bodies.

Better movies about AI: Short Circuit (seriously, watch it again!) / Automata / Blade Runner (of course)

By the title alone, this movie wasn't about Jackman's or Weaver's characters. This wasn't even about a simple emergence of sentience in AI in some laboratory setting.

This was about AI not meeting the demands from a conceptual POV (Deon's), rather than from a corporate/government POV that it suffices.

Post-emergence, this movie tackled more mature issues than the kid-flick Short Circuit. The latter had the teenagers become parents/guardians trying to protect 5 from the military. That's probably as deep as it gets.

The former had immature adults trying to exploit Chappie, and in the process, lived a childhood they probably never had and became responsible parents to the end.

There was no AI. You are confusing AI with real thought. This movie had no AI at all that may be why you did not fully enjoy the movie. This was an actual consciousness, not artificial intelligence. The idea of a "maker" and "place you go when you die" gave this movie a distinct underlying theme, very much like many true science fiction masterpieces. This movie was about theology, not man made intelligence.

AI is by definition intelligence exhibited by software. So yes, it was AI and actual consciousness.

Yes, it was the script that let down otherwise average film and made it obnoxious.
I had good moments though but as whole it was not good.

I was disappointed in it. The characters motivations and direction seemed to change (esp the three knucklehead criminals) from scene to scene. The thing was bouncing all over the place. Way too many plot holes and contrivances for one movie. One thing that really jumped out at me was this supposed high tech military hardware company having zero security. People were allowed to go anywhere they wanted and do whatever they wanted...and if they felt like it...drag out truckloads of equipment with no one around to question it.
Just too many issues to look past.

That's all I could think of as I watched this train wreck; This is _Short Circuit_ with criminals...

Were the criminals supposed to be sympathetic? Was I supposed to "like" Ninja and Yo-Landi? Ninja lied to Chappie. They were bipolar with Wilson, treating him like crap and then their best buddy.

At least it was not the 2-hour lecture on rich vs. poor inequality that Elysium was.

Instead it was a 2-hour chase and crime spree... It could have been treated so much better. OK, I'm going to go re-watch District 9.
