interesting source to the truths about our society.

Even though this was a bad remake of a classic Broadway Play and movie it's a shame it the message board is being taken up with comparisons and complaints. But let's discuss what was said and shown in the movie itself. For example: The clues and subtle truths about the smartphones we use. One character said "they track us and sell our information to the big companies" Then while in the STACKS information tech operating systems they easily track a certain name. And lastly in the movie within a movie Rihanna shape shifts. Let's open the discussion. Or am I the only one and on the wrong message board?

I did not find this Annie to be a bad remake at all.

Phones do hold a lot of our information now!

This is not a bad remake, just a few close-minded people who object to a child of color playing Annie have tried to convince everyone that it is. Personally I view the Annie story as a representative one, all cultures probably have similar orphan stories, of a child just wanting a normal family life. This one does that and while I didn't find all facets of it done well, overall I found it to be a nicely entertaining movie, as good as the rest of the vast middle ground of movies that are not particularly memorable but are made to try to make money. And to give actors a chance to act.

I don't object to the urban version of this movie. I object to the bad music arrangements, overuse of autotune, and using actors/actresses who can't sing when there are thousands of performers (and arrangers) who can sing losing out on parts because they're not famous. Jay-Z did a terrible job with this film. It could have been so much better. The generic hip-hop drum beats were watered down and an insult. I felt like they were going for mediocre.

Can you please tell us what was "urban" about this film? Which songs had auto-tune and "generic hip-hop drum beats"? Jamie Foxx is a musician with Grammy nods. Bobby Cannavalli, Eden Duncan Smith have acted and sang on stage. It'd be nice if your critique was based on accuracy.

Well said!! I like this little girl a lot more than the original, who was irritating as hell. I'm white, and have absolutely no problem with a black Annie and Stacks. And Rose Byrne was lovely. I also hate to see bashers blowing up the board with negativity. If CD's singing really bugs people (it is quite hard to get past), we should keep in mind that Carol Burnett was no singer either. Instead of wanting this to be an exact remake of the original, let it stand on its own feet.

Stack's and Hannigan's back story were compelling. Stack's was so caught up in his technology he distanced himself from others. Eventually, he used it to help Annie. That was a nice wrinkle in the story. The importance of taking advantage of opportunities and the importance of education were well brought out.
