Oh dear

Really awful, not even a remake but a mess of a film piggy backing on an excellent stage show. Poorly cast even worse concept

I disagree. This Annie is an enjoyable movie and great for families in my opinion. It has a touching story with new and old music adapted to this century and some fun and unique dancing.
Although, I agree, if a person has the old Annie stuck in their head and is unwilling to taste any changes then this Annie could surprise you a bit

reply

I agree. I was reluctant to see this since the original movie was the first movie I saw in the theater (I am a sucker for nostalgia). To hear people complain this movie, I didn't bother. Just watched and REALLY enjoyed it. The movie was great BECAUSE of the casting. It's supposed to be fun and quirky because it's a kids movie. How can someone NOT love that little girl? She's beyond adorable and charismatic, the way Annie was supposed to be.

reply

Well said!

The movie flopped BECAUSE of the casting.

1. The girl looks nothing like Annie.
2. The iconic Annie from the comics wasn't in the movie.
3. The girl couldn't sing the Annie songs well at all -- painful to the ears!

That's what happens when you don't have open auditions. Just hand the role to someone who didn't fit the part to begin with.

You obviously are not a musician if that is what you heard!

So clearly you are? What makes you a musician?

reply

Well maybe studying music, playing a couple of instruments, being in the cast of a musical, playing in pit orchestras for musicals, and singing with groups for most of my life. You think that allows me to say "I am a musician?"

Kerchow!

reply

omg! You're a musician as well?? What instruments do you play?

I am the Alpha and the Omoxus. The Omoxus and the Omega

reply

Brass, i.e trumpet and similar 3-valve instruments. (Never played a 4-valve piccolo trumpet.) Also I learned piano when we bought one for my daughter's piano lessons but it was just casual playing for my own entertainment.

We (me, daughter, and granddaughter) love it! So what if Annie was black?? She's a lovely little girl, and she and Jamie Foxx were great together. CD's mugging was the only drawback to the movie for us.
It's a remake. It shouldn't be exactly like the original. I'm just glad Will Smith didn't stick one of his kids in it.

reply

You can't beat the cast of the 82 version!

reply

I second that with Will Smith's kids! Remakes are remakes and meant to be different.

reply

In my opinion, it was tacky!! I prefer the original Annie film over this one. I'm not saying that it had to exactly like the original but I wished at least Grace could've taken Annie shopping in expensive clothing stores for new clothes instead of only buying her that red dress and black dress shoes that she wore to that event!! The movie should've had a musical scene (Annie's voice singing a fun song suitable for the scene) with Annie coming out of the fitting room modeling the outfits to see which ones to get. That's what I felt the movie needed and a 9, 10 or 11 year old actress with a better singing voice. What was up with Jaimie Foxx putting fake hair on his head? That was tacky too, even though he wasn't Daddy Warbucks, he could've still had a bald head.

reply

Thanks for your opinion. Seems you would have preferred this Annie to be more like the old movies. Since I lacked an appreciation for the old versions I found none of these changes annoying but rather I was somehow able to take them at face value which might have helped me deal with the new twists.
