Movie sucked.
So much for attempts to ghetto-ize classics.
shareTo bad you felt that way. I just shared Annie with my extended family this weekend and they all loved it. They said Annie was an adorable movie and they loved the songs and thanked me for sharing it.
[deleted]
Like I say they all loved it. What would you have recommended instead?
share[deleted]
Thank you for sharing your feelings.
I meant what new family film would you have recommended instead of Annie (2014)?
[deleted]
The new live action? Great idea. Didn't know it's out on video yet.
I'm sure everyone has seen the 1955 animated version.
Into The Woods... There are slight changes from the original stage version, but it is still the same beautiful musical. This film doesn't deserve the title "Annie", because this is not "Annie". It's an over-produced, auto-tuned, piece of crap. You could just show your family the original from 1982, or if you want a remake, watch the TV movie remake from 1999 with Kathy Bates and Kristen Chenoweth.
shareThanks, My immediate family did see Into The Woods. My daughter and I enjoyed it. My wife did not.
I think the point is that my extended family understood that we had seen Annie (2014) and that we loved it but that it has a relatively low IMDb score (which I see is now climbing) and they wanted to see for themselves. The result is that they loved it very much because they found it endearing and entertaining with great music, dance and heart.

I care. And I'm not a nobody.

Of course you wouldn't because you are fixated by the look of the original character and are opposed to creative adaptation of it.

Why not?

You already know that is not what I meant. You are just looking for a reason to call someone an idiot as usual.
You have so much hate to dish out to the rest of the world it is no wonder you don't hear or see Annie the way I do.
I was asking why you felt Annie should not be performed by Quvenzhane? Why do you feel she should segregate herself from the role of Annie? And also, why are you so obsessed with the color of people's skin?
[deleted]
Because I am here to voice my opinion about a movie I like. Also, after having visited this site I realized that there was a tremendous amount of bullying, name calling and belittling of people's fair opinions and so I decided to offer a counterpoint until they stopped or I couldn't for some reason.
How come your username is so new? Was your old user name banned from existence or are you new to these boards?
[deleted]
You didn't answer my question.
share[deleted]
No what? You won't answer my question?
Nobody is asking you to leave the boards silly. I was just explaining why I feel I must stay. I feel it would be wrong of me to flee due to name calling and immoral debate tactics when I like expressing my appreciation for the movie Annie.
I get it that you enjoy verbally abusing people who disagree with you and it doesn't bother me but that kind of behavior is wrong so I am here for everyone else.
Quvenzhane is NOT Annie. Read the comic strip. There are 31,000 comic strips of the character (1924-2010). At least the 1982 film held an open casting call auditioning 8,000 girls to find the one girl who most embodied the famed comic strip character in appearance and persona.
shareIf you don't have the look, you don't have the character. The iconic look must be maintained or else it's not Annie. This movie is an insidious hijacking and utterly disrespectful to the icon created by Harold Gray.
shareAutotune is not creative in the least. This was a lazy adaptation for a disgustingly entitled generation of children.
shareI'm opposed to reducing visual icons into faceless generics.
Yes Herricklane thank you for mentioning the '99 version. It's not as well known as the original so everyone forgets it. Personally I think it is the best version with a cracking cast.
