Annie Vs The Wiz

I believe that The Wiz was embraced while Annie isn't is talent. The Wiz had major stars of Diana Ross and Michael Jackson. The Wiz never tried to be an exact copy of The Wizard Of Oz.

The Wiz.

Was 'The Wiz' made before or after 'Mahogany' because I thought that was the movie that ruined Diana's career.

Annie (2014)!

Wiz was awesome! Music and singing amazing! and loved the recent live one on NBC too.
Great interpretation of Wizard of Oz.
And took care to have actual musicians performing.

Dude, Annie had a mixture of musicians, actors and singers. Eden Duncan Smith sang and acted on stage. Bobby Canivalli has on screen. Jamie Foxx is actuallya recording artist.

The Wiz was embraced
Ha!  It was panned by critics and audiences stayed away in droves. But hey...aside from that you got everything else right...

...except:

a. They have the exact same IMDb popularity rating.
b. The Wiz didn't even make it's budget back.
c. Annie made double is budget.
d. Michael Jackson wasn't a major star yet and Diana had been waaaaay on the decline by the time she was unwisely cast as Dorothy.
e. Annie didn't try to be an exact copy of anything. Note the haters complaining...aside about skin color...about change of time period, settings, dialogue, musical arrangements, plot points, absence of old characters, additions of new characters, and well about ALL the changes. 

Peace! 

Annie (2014) did not make its budget back. Theaters get 50% of the total gross and Sony spent over $100 million on advertising. It was the most marketed film in the winter of 2014. The total gross, domestic and foreign, was $133.8 million. Sony's take, domestic and foreign, was $67 million. With a budget of $65 million plus over $100 million spent on advertising, Sony lost around $98 million on this movie. It was an unfaithful adaptation of a comic strip icon whose image was one of the most recognizable in American culture. Predictably, it bombed.

The Wiz (1978) did not have the benefit of a foreign gross.
