haha and more than a year passes

Ahd this autotune mess still sucks.

Long live Carol Burnett, Tim Curry, and Bernadette Peters!

Haha! You're posting on the board of a movie you dislike over a year after it came out. Get a life!

(And get some good taste while you're at it because Annie 1982 is not a good movie)

reply

!982 wasn't perfect, but at least it stayed Broadway and made sure the main characters could SING! Again Carol Burnett, Bernadette Peters, and Tim Curry, are legendary!
While the new songs were fun, I'm not sure why they needed to take out some of the original songs and replace with those new ones.

Get a life, wow I'll take that so seriously now from someone that frequents here more often than me. I've so seen the light thank you.

reply

1982 was great in the spirit of the original comic strip. The only film version of Annie that is.

reply

You are just bitter that this Annie didn't have red hair.

reply

You know what, I'm not gonna lie yeah it is a major downer that they changed everything about the character all together. might as well been made a boy.
I feel that way about ALL characters meant to be written a certain way.
Harry Potter- brown hair white boy glasses
Luke Skywalker- blond guy
Han Solo= Harrison Ford
Chewbacca- wookie
etc.

But really with this Anna it all comes down the music quality. It's just plain awful when a musical movie is so lazy they can't bother to find better talent.
There's a few musical movies I hate because the music quality and singing is terrible.
Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd is a big failure because Helena couldn't sing for *beep* as compared to the beautiful voice of Angela Lansbury, Les Mis movie well I still kind of liked it but Russell, and Princess diary girl were terrible.
I have more examples but that's all I'll say

I'm a bit of a musical geek and I hate when musicals get ruined with poor talent, especially when it's Hollywood where they have the budget and means to fill the parts with amazing musicians but choose not to.

GOOD musicians and singers work hard at their craft and it is good and pleasant to hear when musicians do well.

reply

Thank you for taking the time to explain your feelings. As a musician myself I understand your point of view. I guess I just didn't mind any failings in the music quality. I was having a lot of fun because of the energy and dancing and effort.

reply

You must be about 105 years old. The music was young and fresh. It wasn't meant for old timers who were fans of the original Annie. Or else they would have done the movie exactly the same. What a snooze fest that would have been.

reply

The music wasn't good. New does not mean better.

reply

Had they done the movie like the original Annie it wouldn't have done so poorly at the box office.

reply

I agree with you for the most part, especially in regard to this movie, but I just would like to point out that if done right, you can have a big movie musical work where the lead actress has been dubbed over. Now, I do say dubbed over, and not having had that autotune crap used.

My point is that I'm referring to West Side Story where they dubbed over Natalie Wood's singing voice with someone else and it was done very well. It was actually very commonly done in those days. And if they'd done that here instead of using autotune, this movie MIGHT have been better. But I still object to the changing of the entire premise of the movie outside of "an orphan girl."

The whole point of Annie is that she is supposed to be based off the 1930s era orphan girl and Daddy Warbucks. Annie was a little girl who believed in righting wrongs and fighting for justice. The whole Truth, Justice, and the American Way which was something a lot of people during that time were beginning to forget because their lives sucked thanks to the Crash. She was someone the average person of the times could believe in and who gave them hope to keep going and believe that things could eventually get better.

And I love the constant attempt of people here who TRY and bash the 1982 version of the movie. Very funny. That was probably the best version of the movie made with the best cast ever. As someone else on this board commented, Carol Burnett, Tim Curry, and Bernadette Peters. Sorry, but you just can't beat that combo! And Aileen Quinn will always be the BEST Annie ever!

But I'm the first to admit my likes aren't limited to cinematic masterpieces. I found it light and entertaining - movie cotton candy. No analysis or dissenting opiniins will change my mind!

Kinda wish they'd cast Paltrow in the Diaz role though...

*beeep!* That is all

Stupid movie.
