Should be called Thank You.

If I had a dime for every time someone's kid was out of control and the parent did nothing or try to negotiate with the child I would have trillions.Sending your kid to the corner/room only goes so far. There comes a time when violence needs to be applied. Maybe not a full on slap no matter how hilarious that slap was but at least a spanking.

Yeah, would agree with you. I'm a bit older than the adults age group and when I was a kid that was a pretty normal reaction to a kid acting like that. Mind you not a full face slap but a couple of slaps on the bottom, definitely. Isn't that kid way TOO OLD to be breastfed?!?!?

Well I did point that out, that a face slap IS NOT appropriate. He wasn't a total stranger as it seems they all knew each other and had socialized before. They knew what this kid was like and the parents did nothing! He slapped the kid as an instant reaction. I'm not saying it's right but at first he just picked him up and told him to 'stop it' but the kid kicked him in the shins and he reacted. As others have said, the parents should wear a lot of the blame. We'll have to see how this pans out.
I just know personally that if I knew a family like that, with an 'out of control' child whose parents stood by while he destroyed things, I simply wouldn't invite them!!!! Problem solved!

No, I wasn't defending him or even excusing him. I was just explaining what led to him doing it. Haven't you ever got angry and reacted, maybe inappropriately? If you haven't you'd be in the minority! It was just 'a spur of the moment' thing.
And nowhere was it stated that he was 3 years old, if they wanted to make that clear, they should have worked it into the dialogue, not everyone has read the book. He's the biggest and tallest 3 year old I've ever seen (I bet the actor is at least 5 or 6 years old). That's how old he looked to me.

There's a lot of information on the ABC site, I hadn't looked into this particular show. I just started to watch it to see if it was any good. ABC has been producing some quality drama, compared to the garbage that's on the commercial channels! I'm sure one of the reasons the quality is good is all the good actors in it, both the home grown and the imports.
So if you've read the book, is it worth staying with? Is the story really good? On Thursday nights from 8.30 to 10.30 there are 4 different programs that I want to watch, on different channels of course, so I have to record some and switch channels to make sure I don't miss the start of them! And of course on some other nights, there's a drought.

Thanks fairpenguin,
I haven't watched tonight's episode yet, I've recorded it. I'll let you know what I think once view it.

Spare a thought for the actor who played Hugo.

reply

WHY? Do you really think he got slapped that hard? Ever heard of sound effects and err yeah acting. You do know they were acting out a scene, don't you? Maybe I don't understand what you mean, because another poster on this board actually thought that the little boy really suckled on Melissa George's nipple!!!

reply

Of course it's acting. Obviously too insensitive to get the point.

Yes you should if that service person tries to hit your kid with a blunt object and then hits you.
