The Slap: my review of the TV series

Part 1: Hector
The plot quite faithful to the book. I thought the actress playing Connie was really good, as the one who played Rosie.
The actress who played Aisha was African, not Indian, but her acting was good too...close enough :)
I thought Hector was shown a bit more sympathetic, than in the book, trying to calm down his guests and being a good father.
Part 2: Anouk.
Perhaps I misunderstood that part of the book, but I thought book!Anouk was much more confident and laid-back in her outlook on life,
much more in control. She didn't seem to be shaken up by the pregnancy, like the TV!Anouk. Also, there was a plot change in that part
of the series, with Anouk's boyfriend finding out about her pregnancy and abortion, then him leaving her, because he thought. she was
not honest with him. I suppose if she really wanted him to stay with her and if she could pull it off convincingly, she could have said she
had a miscarriage instead of the abortion. Then he wouldn't have broken up with her, so the plot change wouldn't have been so significant.
Rosie gave advice to Anouk to do what she wants, not what Anouk thinks she should do. That showed some depth to her character.
Part 3: Harry
The actor played the role of Harry quite well. The plot followed the book quite closely, with a small change, about Harry's son feeling guilty
about Hugo got slapped by Harry and how the boy wanted to go and confess that it was his fault, not his father's. Harry was shown comforting
his son. Made him seem more sympathetic.
Part 4: Connie
In my opinion the role of Connie was played very well. The extra plotline added, about Connie actually confronting Hector before going to the
party was interesting. I wish more info was included from those letters about Connie's parents etc, because all that was too brief, in my opinion.
Part 5: Rosie
I think the actress who played Rosie did a very good job portraying the various aspects of her character (positive) a devoted mother and (negative)
being stubborn and self-righteous.
Her husband was played well by the actor. Also, that actor who played a policeman on neighbours a few years ago, here played the role of Rosie's lawyer,
which was interesting. It was also interesting to see the more fleshed-out details of the trial and Rosie's family's past.
Part 6: Manolis
Generally well acted and told. I wish there were flashbacks to the past when Manolis and his wife were young. Liked the picking tomatoes part added as well,
one change from the book I didn't like: in the book Manolis cannot tell his wife he wants intimacy, because he remembers a moment of cruelty his mother
showed him in his early adolescence during one morning. This was an interesting insight into his character. In the TV series the episode was changed and
made almost humorous.
Part 7: Aisha
It was pretty close to the book, though there were some minor plot changes,
with Hector preferring the massage, leaving out some details of their getaway etc.
Part 8: Richie
Generally close to the book. The pool scene was less graphic, though there was a sexual implication as well. Also, it is a bit unclear, whether or not Aisha realized about her husband's affair (with Connie) *edited for clarification.
