Have sex at his party? or did they stop when she said it hurt? it wasn't very clear to me. Is she a virgin? but has she been having an affair with Hector or is it wishful thinking on her part. I'm assuming she lied when she said Hector raped her, right?. I don't want to know what's in the book, just what they're showing in this series. Also, do we find out her parent's story or is that left not clarified? Thanks.
In the book her parents are very loving and they adore her. Yes they were both dying from advanced HIV but her father did not sleep around- not sure where Bourgeois got that from- he contracted HIV from an infected needle and spent years living in denial, even when he met Marina, Connie's mother.
After her mother died Connie and her father lived together and they were happy- she remembers the time they spent and he was a very devoted and loving father. He gave her to the one person in life he trusted, that was his sister.
Bourgeois summary is wrong on so many levels- its obvious this poster has deep seated dislike for anyone living with HIV
He wasnt a minor character- Luke was Connie's dad and the defining part of who she was, she was constantly relating to him and wondering if she was like him but started to related more with her mother...it was the turning point of her story. Luke is mentioned at the start- it was his birthday- middle and at the end.
I dont think you have read the book at all BSL ...because he wasnt a drug addict. He experimented with drugs once or twice and found he didnt like it, he did not continue. Considering millions of babies are born to junkie parents and are wards of state....Connie's parents actually cared about her and saved up money so she could go to college. It was better than nothing.
BSL i am sorry you are homophobic and hate people living with HIV, it is quite sad and i feel sorry for u
I just reread the Connie chapter because I was pretty sure there were flaws in what you were saying but couldn't remember exactly. So.
First, Connie's father, Luke, is a minor character. BSL does a good job of explaining why. While it doesn't explicitly say he slept around, that is definitely suggested in his letter to Tash. The letter, in fact, implies that both of Connie's parents slept around. In regards to the drugs - I have no idea where you get
He experimented with drugs once or twice and found he didnt like it, he did not continue.
For one, Heroin isn't usually a drug that someone who experiments once or twice uses. Secondly he tells Connie, at age 11, "you should always try half the recommended dose of a drug the first time you try it. That way you can't lose control and if you like it you can have more." Thirdly, in regards to not liking it - all it says is he regrets the night he injected heroin with that particular man because he is certain that is when he contracted HIV. That doesn't mean he didn't like the drug. Doesn't mean he didn't continue. Doesn't mean that was the only time he did it. Simply means that he regretted doing it on that occasion because it basically is what killed him.
I'm pretty sure you read this book with a good old pair of rose coloured glasses on.

I thought this episode made it quite clear the Connie was a virgin. Hector kept asking if she was OK after their little "session", and although she wanted to have sex, the boy at the party stopped when she asked him to.
I haven't read the book so can't comment from that perspective, but about 10 mins into Connie's episode I thought the letter she was reading was from her mother, which led into her and Ritchie were talking about her father. And one of the pictures on the wall looked extremely like aussie actor Matt Day (in his 20s)....anyone else see that?
It was a surprise at the end (to me) when she read the end of the letter which turned out to be from her dad. Maybe I missed something a little too subtle?
