absolute outrage

Any one who has read the book, knows this pile of crap is an absolute joke. The book is a great work of Australian literature, can't believe they made such a ridiculous adaptation. How can Sophie Okonedo a half Nigerian be substituted for a character who is an Australian Indian. it's insulting.

Yea its a tragedy. So you should go make your own show based off the book.

Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by rulers as useful.

Your only specified objection is that an actress has different racial makeup than her character? Well, that would pretty much X out the majority of films ever made. Having not read the book (yet), HOW exactly is it a "ridiculous adaptation"? Other posters who've read it seem to be quite satisfied with the series.

"racial makeup" implies something superficial, cosmetic and interchangeable; whereas what i'm alluding to: character, cultural expression and the deep structures of psyche, like it or not, are very much an overt manifestation of personal history and culture. As an African who has lived in Australia for nearly twenty years, I can tell you that Australo-Fijian Indians and english-africans are not the same thing. Sophie okenedo, great actress though she is, completely mis-played the character in my opinion, missing many of the subtle nuances of the part, and as such my response to her Aisha, was not the same as my response to the character in the book, and having finished the book some time ago,I have to say my position on the matter has not changed.
As to your point about "other's" satisfaction being some kind of barometer as to the veracity of your argument, I tend to find that adherence to the mean position is never a good measure by which to adequately evaluate what is going on.
