If it was in color it wouldn't be applauded by so many lickspittles. It's a solid 3 maybe 3 and a half star movie. I was flabbergasted when I was told this was nominated for Academy awards. Of course, the Academy Awards are bull. Thoght the budget was around a half million and I read it was 12. What?
shareI thought it was amongst the best movies of 2013. I found it very entertaining and moving. The fact that it looked beautiful did not hurt. I imagine that if it was in colour my enjoyment of it would not have been affected.

shareI started watching this tonight & haven't gotten to far until I had to stop & look it up here. I don't have a problem w/ B&W BUT when you're going on a road trip where a majority of people have never been, I've already noticed so much scenery that would have been amazing if shot in color. I love landscapes & scenery & nature, even if it's winter time & am greatly dissapointed by this
I don't know why they did this. I haven't gotten far, I will start watching it again & see if I want to continue. Maybe there's a reason for the B&W, so far it seems like they are all stuck in life, not moving forward, maybe there's a meaning of being blah, IDK, I like to give things a chance but don't like wasting my time.

I am watching it now for the 2nd time & came here to see if perhaps the choice for B&W was made specifically for the gorgeous landscapes. I've driven across the country a dozen times, and as an amateur photographer, I love those landscapes in B&W. Personally I feel that except maybe for 5 minutes at sunset they are pretty mundane in color.
According to this stackexchange.com post http://movies.stackexchange.com/questions/17992/why-is-nebraska-shot-in-black-white the cinematographer did mention the landscape as one of many reasons
I did feel the household scenes would have been better in color for the opposite reason: to make them more mundane; but it's hard to pull off mixing the two unless they signify different realities or time periods, and it seems an easy choice between emphasizing the gorgeous landscapes vs. the mundane family scenes
Black and white makes the movie great to me...
I had to buy this on DVD enjoyed it so much.

shareThe black and white was absolutely pointless. A lot like the story I guess. It makes me question why I liked any of his other films (I liked About Schmidt back in the day). This movie is an embarrassment.
